Yes.  They will attach and send.  It doesn't matter what kind of file trying to be opened, nothing will open.

  • clarenceiawl Oct 24, 2008

    i have the same problem

  • gap3658 Oct 25, 2008

No, it won't download.  When the download comment is clicked and it tries to download a message appears that says to check several things - all of which have been checked.  Nothing works.  However, I'm thinking it is an internet explorer problem.  I did a little test by opening up a hotmail account and having an attachment sent to it.  The same problem occurred.  I have reset all the explorer settings back to factory, but it still won't work.

  • chasekris2 Oct 25, 2008

I was able to open attachments until the last day or 2. It says that I'm not connected to the internet... which I obviously am or I wouldn't be here. Earlier this week, Vista automatically installed the new updates on my computer; when this happened, Yahoo Messenger then popped up every time I turned my computer on. I deleted the messenger (takes too much time to start computer when that is in the start up menu).

NOW.. I can't open attachments, which makes it hard to run the business!

  • clarenceiawl Oct 25, 2008

It has nothing to do with the computer, firewall or antivirus,if you fwd the email to yourself at another email server like gmail for instance you can download the attach with no prob,i believe the problem is with yahoo.

  • gap3658 Oct 25, 2008

I'm going to try downloading a different internet browser - Firefox to see if it open attachments.  This is just ridiculous!  Thanks for the comments everyone.

yahoo mail won't open any attachments. This only happens in yahoo.

  • gap3658 Oct 28, 2008

I think this must  be a yahoo problem.  We set up a hotmail account and attachments downloaded fine this time.  Still won't download in yahoo.  This is just crazy!

I can't open any attachments. It tells me I'm not connected to the internet or to check that the SSL is enabled....I've done everything and checked everything and I still can't open attachments. I need this fixed asap. I'm doing online school and my teachers send me attachments that I need to be able to open.

I can open my email, but I cannot open or download attachments of yahoo mail. I have paid for some info to be sent to me (embroidery designs) and now I cannot receive them. The message says"no URL found". Please, Yahoo, help us.

I have an Apple computer that I use Yahoo with - no problems.  It is the other computer that yahoo has stopped downloading attachments for.  I have had a computer tech come look at it.  There is no problem with the computer.  It is disappointing because we prefer using Yahoo.  However, there doesn't seem to be a solution that we can find.

  • Anonymous Oct 29, 2008

i have the same problem and it started several days ago when we ran a java update. not sure if that has anything to do with it.

anyway, i also think it's a yahoo problem and hope they will fix it soon as it's my e-mail of choice... at least for now!

please fix whatever if causing us to NOT be able to open attachments... and SOON!

  • Rebeccastudi Oct 30, 2008

I too for some time now can not open any attachment files whether they are music, pictures or documents. This is very vital in my business. I am baffled! When I open my emails with attached files and try to open them I get a variety of messages that say internet explorer is not connected or my ssl thingy is not enabled. I have checked everything and have done nothing differently. What else can I do. I'm sick of running to the Geek Squad and spending my hard earned money to have them run sweeps that don't seem to do the trick! Help!!

Same problem - Is this Yahoo's way of trying to make us pay them for their premium mail program?

  • sueaz211 Nov 06, 2008

I have had difficulty opening attachments with yahoo for many months now. Occassionally they will open but mostly it never opens into a temporary file and therefore just gets hung up. Some solutions I've found to this problem is switching back to classic yahoo or sometimes I can forward it to a gmail account (although lately I am having problems forwarding too). I'm convinced this has something to do with yahoo but they don't seem to be too concerned about fixing this.

Do you see a comment that says "Download file"? Click it if you do and it will download the attachment and open it.

aaaaaah this is sounding like something in your computer. Do you have something like a Popups blocker?? Perhaps a security setting? an antivirus setting? a toolbar other than the normal Internet Explorer one? incredimail?? that thing is deadly if you do.

  • MissFlossie Oct 28, 2008

ok, so if you have established that yahoo is the problem for you, perhaps you could just give yahoo a miss. If you are all in America, perhaps it's a local problem. I haven't heard anybody complaining about it here in Australia. We love Yahoo here.

  • MissFlossie Oct 29, 2008

I find it very offputting that very often when I am a reading a reply, certain words that my mouse browses over produce an advertisement. I'm beginning to think a lot of this is written for that reason. to advertise. Is advertising prolific on this site??

Yahoo Email When It Won't Open Attachments

Yahoo Mail is a popular webmail service that allows people to create their own email username and have it hosted by the Yahoo network.

In addition to providing fast and reliable email, Yahoo Mail also allows you to send and receive large attachments.

If you use Yahoo Mail, and are having issues opening attachments, there are several easy troubleshooting steps you can try to get your Yahoo Mail attachments.

Sign out of Yahoo and clear your cache.
Since Yahoo! needs to access your cache to keep you logged in and to communicate with your computer when downloading attachments, a full cache can prevent Yahoo Mail from opening attachments correctly.

Create the menu tab on your homepage right click in the top toolbar you should see a number of toolbar options select the menu tab which will add File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help
Go to your browser's "Tools" or "Internet Options" menu and then select the "Delete Temporary Internet files" command to delete your cache.

Reload the page. lf you have had Yahoo Mail open for a long time, the page may have gone idle, and you may not be able to access your attachment.
Press the "Reload" (F5) button and then log back in to your account.

Ensure that the attachment is not corrupt.
If the sender did not finish uploading before they hit "Send" or there was an error during the upload, the file may be corrupted. Ask the sender to re-attach the file and send it again.

Check the file format.
Some formats are proprietary and will not open unless specific programs are installed on your computer.

For instance, if you are sent an AAC file, you will not be able to open it unless iTunes is installed on your computer.

Can't get most of my attachments to appear

With the Web-based Yahoo! Mail service, you can attach to your email message a saved Web page or another document in HyperText Markup Language format.
When you attach an HTML file in this way, Yahoo! Mail won't display the HTML content of the attached file in the email message body.
To view the attachment, you must click the attachment tab above the email message.Yahoo! Mail and HTML
Yahoo! Mail is a Web-based service and it's fully compatible with the coding languages used to design and display Web content, including HTML and XML, Extensible Markup Language.
This means emails sent or received in Rich text or HTML format include clickable hyperlinks, graphics and other Web design elements.
However, Yahoo! handles emails with HTML attachments in a different way to email messages formatted with HTML.

About Yahoo! Mail Attachments
Like most email programs and online services, Yahoo! Mail offers an attachment feature for adding images, video clips, audio files and HTML document to email messages.
Some email programs display the content of the attached file in the email message body, but Yahoo! Mail doesn't provide this feature for any file attachment, whether it's an image, video clip or HTML document.

Viewing Yahoo! Mail Attachments When you attach an HTML document or another file to your Yahoo! Mail message, an "Attachments" button labeled with a "Paperclip" icon appears below the email address fields and above the email message body.
Clicking the "Attachments" button opens a pane containing a list of all files attached to the email. The email sender or recipient can open each attachment to view the files by clicking the file name.

Considerations

When sending a Yahoo! Mail with an attachment, always explain the content of the attachment in the main body of the email message.
A brief explanation will encourage the recipient to click and open the attachment to view the HTML document.
Bear in mind that many email services automatically block HTML attachments because of the security risk of opening HTML files, which can contain viruses, phishing scams or open Web pages with inappropriate content.
If you want to share a favorite Web page with a friend or contact, include a hyperlink to the Web page rather than a saved copy as an HTML attachment.

Since upgrading yahoo 7 mail I have not been able to send emails as the box won't open and even when I try to read new mail or get my contact list up it doesn't seem to happen

New version of Yahoo has many issues at this time. They hope to have it fixed soon. In the meantime, try switching from one Yahoo version to another. Or shift to the Yahoo Mail Classic version (the old interface) which loads faster and works on all web browsers.
You also want to check yahoo mail using a different web browser program (Mozilla, Chrome). Or check your internet connection speed and firewall access limitations.

After logging into your Yahoo mail, click on the contacts. At the top you see Import/Export. You have to import the CSV file into Yahoo. Once that is done, things will be ok.
