Magnavox MWD 2205 DVD/VCR combo: DVD only plays first couple of minutes of disk and then repeats same over and over
When trying to watch a DVD, only the first few minutes of the program plays and then it replays the first few minutes over and over again without progressing to the rest of the DVD program.
Every now and then can get it to play past the first few minutes or introduction, but most of the time it recycles to the beginning of the program and just replays the introductory part portion over and over again sort of like it's previewing the program over and over again
Can anyone figure out what this crazy thing is doing?

Re: Magnavox MWD 2205 DVD/VCR combo: DVD only plays first...
Is this the begining of a dvd that plays the introduction over and over untill you press play again or select the play option on the intrduction? if not then try a cleaning cd for the laser , also make sure the repeat option has not be enabled when the dvd is played hope this helps! I'll check back to see if you need more help

1: set tv to channel you want your vcr output to be on. 2: turn vcr on (if it is a vcr/dvd combo make sure it is on vcr) 3: put in video tape. 4: press play button one time, release it, and then press and hold it for three to five seconds. i had to call customer support to figure this out on mine.
you probable have a dirty video head...you can try a tape head cleaner tape/// they sometimes work.... if not you need to get to the video head and clean it with a liquid cleaning solution---
one of your tapes may have a bad spot on it causing the problem...if you clean it and use the same bad tape again you can cause the same problem again
On a unit I checked with this same symptom, removing the top cover allows the unit to stay on and operate normally. There is some sort of sensor at the left middle of the chassis, which, when unblocked by any opaque object, allows the unit to remain on. A temporary fix (not advisable) would be to replace the top cover with a piece of clear plastic or taut saran wrap (no vent holes needed). It's unclear exactly where/what that sensor is from a cursory test. This is a work in progress on someone else's machine that I lack full access to.
