Remote not changing channels

I have changed the remote control batteries but the set top box will not respond to the Remote. There are no controls on the main unit, so I am stuck on the channel it is currently on. Any suggestions?

1) You could get a replacement, just google "replacement remote control", you can elaborate and include your dvd player details. Here's a UK site I've used before:- http://www.avukltd.com/

2) You can try a repair, invariably with use, goo tends to build up between the keypad and the printed circuit board in the control.

Take out the batteries, look for screws, normally one at each end but the same side. Remove those and prise the top from the bottom of the remote. You may have to remove the printed circuit board as well.

The keypad needs to come away, intact. Once achieved, look at the contacts on the keypad, probably covered in a film of goo. This can be washed in soapy water, gently, then dried thoroughly, dab with a soft cloth then place on a radiator or somewhere warm for a couple of hours.

The circuit board now needs to be cleaned. I use isopropriol alcohol on a cotton bud, smells great, hugely inflammable but cleans and evaporates very quickly. If you don't have any, try a soft damp cloth and dab away at the contacts. That too has to be thoroughly dry. Then you can re-assemble the remote and try again.

"I tried to repair the remote following step 2 but its still not working.. So I am not sure if the remote is really the problem. "

The only time I've seen this before is when a substitute or replacement remote control is being used, that being the case you probably need to enter a code before your DVD player will accept instructions.

The only other issue, other than component failure is the infra-red sensor on the DVD player is either covered or blocked or may just need a wipe.

I've gone on about DVD players because you posted the problem under DVD players but you mention a set top box, could it be you've a problem with a digi-box vice DVD player?

This being the issue, try reseting the digi-box. Power off for 5 minutes, power on then, using the setup menu on the remote control reset and retune the box.

With cable input connected to "RF in"on rear of unit make sure vidoe input is set to "Tuner". This will show up on the TV screen. Change channels numerically or using up/down arrow keys on DVR remote. Note there is a slight pause between changing channels. You probably will have to "autoscan" for channel setup/etc. If you say your TV set is old; it probabaly is equiped with coax
connection only/set TV channel to "3" or "4". when yot opt to play vcr/dvd it will override your
cable channel selected. Hope this helps!

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. Surf the site with patience. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean.

I cannot change the channel with my MX880

Try to set the remote control; with an other code said for your device. Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. It has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. One among it has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily.

If the TV do not respond to remote control; to change channels, there are many possibilities. Check the infrared emission of the remote control first. Check it with fresh batteries. If the infrared sensor inside the TV is faulty, this kind of fault can happen. In other words, your TV need a through check up, which a normal user can't do with ease. Changing Remote Control Code

This Remote is capable of transmitting two control codes; one set
to respond to A code control signals and another set to respond to
B code control signals. This Remote control is preset to send A
code signals because your VCR is initially set to respond to A code
signals. You can easily modify your VCR and the Remote to
respond to B code signals. When using two JVC VCRs, set two
VCRs and their Remotes to different codes, so that you can
operate these VCRs separately.

A

Press and hold A/B.
B
Press the Number key .2..
C
Press OK, and release A/B.

.
The Remote now can transmit B code control signals.
B
Check remote control code for VCR

Press and hold 4
on the VCR for more than 5 seconds while the
VCR is turned off. The code currently set appears on the display
panel.

C
Change code for VCR

Press any key on the Remote. The VCR now responds to B code
control signals.

.
To set the Remote and the VCR back to A code control signals,
repeat the same procedure as shown above except pressing the
Number key .1”

To control two VCRs with the same Remote

You can control two JVC VCRs by switching the remote control
code for the Remote between A and B (.
step A

VCRs to different control codes.

.
To change only the remote control code for the Remote, DO
NOT perform steps B

Set top box and remote control

I have the same problem. When I move the 8300HDC away from the TV, or power off the TV, the remote responds. There seems to be some kind of RF interference, which makes no sense since the TV shouldn't emit RF, and the the box should be using IR only for remote input. My TV is a 46" LCD Samsung. Try turning off the TV and see if the 8300HDC responds to powering on and off with the remote.
