Pentax IST DS & 2 GB SD cards

I am pretty sure that there are 1G(memory space) on this card. So anyone can tall me what go wrong.

Probably card problem. My ist ds2 works fine with a 2g card. Had to update to firmware version 1.02, in order to use sdhc cards with higher-than-2g capacity.

You need to upgrade the firmware on the camera. The latest versions will support cards bigger than 1GB; as delivered 1GB was the max.

Ok lets simplify the answers above, they are correct,

1. Check the formatting of the card, do a FAT32 format, not a simple format - full

2. Check the firmware of the camera and make sure it's up to date

3. If this doesn't work check the camera with a new card

If you have an adabtor to use the memory card directly on a computer you will be able to see if there are actualy files on it that are taking space. There is also the possiblity that there are some corrupt files, or there is an error in how the card's FAT is being reported.

A quick fix may be to tell the camera to re-format the card. This should clean it up.

If re-formating does not work, try another card in case the one you have is defective. If a new card does not fix the fault, then there may be a problem with how the uPC in the camera is working with the memory card. In this case the camera will have to go back to the manufacture's service rep to fix the problem.

Unable to use SD card higher than 2 GB capacity

If you're using a card larger than 2GB then it's an SDHC card, not an SD card. The *ist DL works with SD cards, which top out at 2GB. Even though higher-capacity SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they will not work with this camera.

Memory card error

Clean the contacts of the SD card and check the contacts of the camera. Some foreign material could prevent the cards working. You can try another SD card to see difference.
Simple thing but check also the SD card write protection is off (side of the card).

What is the largest capacity SD card that I can use with a Pentax IST ds camera?

The camera uses SD memory cards. SD cards max out at 2GB. SDHC cards run from 4GB up, but they cannot be used in SD devices. SD cards can be used in SDHC devices.

The short answer is 2GB.

I want to obtain a larger memory card (currently have a 1GB) but everyone we buy I have been unalbe to get them to format/ I have a pentax ist DS

You should be able to use 2GB SD cards. Cards larger than 2GB are actually SDHC cards and will not work with this camera.

Why is my *ist DS eating my SD cards?!

I've used Sandisk Ultra II 512M cards, a PQI 1G and a Transcend 1G card (all high speed rated) in the *istDS. I've done about 1500 exposures now, many RAW, and have done several rounds of upload to my computer. No problems at all. These same cards work flawlessly in a Panasonic FZ10 as well. Either you have had a bit of bad luck, two defective SD cards in a row, or have a *istDS with a stuck or bad memory card controller. Try using the Reset command in the Set Up Menu, see if that helps. BTW, always format SD cards with the camera once before you start using them.

SD card for *ist DL

Interesting... I've heard that (for the DS at least) the camera isn't capable of using more than about 60X, but of course your downloads can be faster if you use a reader. At 2gb, this might give you some benefit, but a full transfer of 1gb on a garden variety sandisk only takes a few minutes.

I guess You should wait for a firmware update - and do not format the card in the camera until then. I think it won't take long.
