Do you have to set the motherboard jumper settings? or are they preset

Jumper settings can usually be left alone. All jumper settings can be found in the motherboard manual found here:

To get by this password you have to clear the CMOS. To do this open the case and take a look at the motherboard (system board). Find the lithium battery that backs up the CMOS. Adjacent to the battery holder, somewhere near, depending on the make of your motherboard, you will see a set of 3 or 4 small pins with a jumper cap across two of them. ( a jumper cap is about 4mm square & 3mm deep with a metal liner) Remove this jumper cap and place it on the other two pins for abou 10 seconds. This puts a ground on the reset leg of the CMOS chip and clears all memory. Return the jumpercap to its original position and boot-up. Pressing 'del' will get you into CMOS setup. Find and select "Load defaults". Press escape and choose "save changes & exit". Computer will now boot normally and will not ask for a password.

I had a power surge and computer was not on a surge protector. Tried reinstalling windows but it doesn't install. Just wondering if perhap the motherboard (A7V8X-X) got fried? Replaced the hard drive as i...

Are you trying to install to a brand new hdd? If so, check the jumper settings on the drive. Be sure it is set to MASTER. I don't suspect any problems with the mobo since you are able to run the installation up to the point where it starts copying file, then you get the error. Double check the jumper settings on the hdd and let me know the outcome.

I was overlocking my cpu and video card and the screen went black and i was wondering if there is a way to rest my bios

Here is a typical CMOS jumper reset setup. The pins may not be oriented as it is shown, but this is certain. The way they are now set on the motherboard is to run normally, so the opposite connection needs to be done as it shows. I don't know the specific location of the jumper, so you will have to find it.

If the motherboard is new or you never set any jumper setting or you did not interfere any connection seeting their then you yo did not need jumper setting to seat the CPU.

The CPU you are going to use is very compatible in your mainboard so do not worry about the setting.

more about your setting click here for the usermanual of your board.

hope this help, melnavz

P4mmv2 motherboard

If its a P4mmv2 motherboard with AMIBIOS 686 and a VIA VT8233 chipset then the jumper setting are printed on the motherboard, but they have labeled the power switch wrong, I believe th reset switch is the power switch. This is the type of mother board that I have and I have learned this from experience. Also I read in somewhere on the internet about the problems with these types of motherboards.
