I replaced all of the contractor installed smoke detectors with First Alert Model P1210 detectors.

The replacement smoke detectors may have had low batteries when installed or the contractor-selected mounting locations may be wrong.

Smoke detector removed from ceiling. Only wires visible, but I still hear chirping.

Look at the detector you removed, and all others that may still be wired in.
They all have battery backup. Although the detectors are hardwired, the chirping is coming from one of the detectors to let you know to change the battery.

Battery connection on new alarm Light Your Way Smoke and Fire alarm

If the battery will not make a connection, it may not be installed properly. The connector requires firm pressure.

My First Alert instructions say to "press and hold the test button on the cover for 5-20 seconds, or until the alarm sounds".

I have four of these smoke detectors in my home. They are all hooked together. Yesterday I put new batteries in all four and now they will not stop cherping. After about 8 hours I took the new batteries...

Three small chirps in one minute intervals means that the unit is needing service. The ion chamber in that unit has a fixed life span and when it expires, that is how it tells you. It is time to replace it. They usually last about 10 years.

My First Alert Carbon Monoxide Alarm has failed

If the carbon monoxide detector chirps, the battery may be dead. New batteries can be defective. Check if the light is yellow when the alarm is chirping, it means the battery is low, replace with a new battery.

BRK smoke/co2 detector - won't stop beeping

sometimes the alarms are ganged to other apartments .. that's so if there is a fire in one apartment then others are alerted as well .. so the low battery warning could be from a neighbor ... also there may be a common ceiling space that will allow you to hear your neighbors detector .. at any rate someone around you has a low battery in their detector .. if they are ganged then that may be an apartment management maintenance item ..
