Hi,

Clock will not set for correct time. Manually change but this does not work.

Most likely the CMOS (Bios battery), which is a small silver coin shaped battery on the motherboard needs changing. This maintains the correct time when the laptop is switched off. They last for up to 3 years then need replacing. (example in picture)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CMOS-RTC-Battery-Toshiba-Satellite-A105-Series-/270751984156?pt=US_Batteries&hash=item3f0a136a1c

Be careful in changing the battery, If you have not done this before, refer to a computer repair shop.

I have a toshiba satellite a105 - s4034...it quit working so I bought a new battery cause the battery light was flashing....still doesn't work.....battery light flashes 11 times and does nothing...

there is a bios update that resolves the issue. from their support site:

In very rare cases, the battery pack of your PC may stop accepting a charge, i.e., the battery stops working and no longer supplies power to the computer. To minimize the risk of ever experiencing this problem, we strongly recommend that you download and install the latest BIOS by clicking the 'Downloads' link that will appear when you are finished reading Support News

toshiba will also replace your battery if it is found to fail because of the bios issue, download the test utility at the support website http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp

Trying to reboot toshiba satellite a105 s1014 but it is asking for a password

Hello there...

I've been experiencing this similar problem once and toshiba replace my motherboard because they cannot solve the problem.

And I really hope that I am wrong. But, this problem is actually a known BIOS problem in some version of BIOS which is fixed in the latest BIOS update release Version 2.30.

See this quoted from toshiba tech support website:
Change History
Version 2.30 - 2008-10-10
  • Corrected: A BIOS password may be set automatically (spontaneously) by the computer.
  • Corrected: The internal keyboard repeat speed can not be changed.

See if you can claim this to toshiba, because it is actually BIOS bug.

Hope this helps... :D

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4048 problem with AC Adapter When I turn the laptop on with the AC adapter, after checking the BIOS freezes and does not boot Windows. If I turn the laptop in only with battery boot...

There's not much you can do. The problem is definately with your motherboard. I'd recommend a bios update, but normally you can ONLY run a bios update if the battery and the ac are both plugged in.

This problem is pretty common among Toshiba's A105 and P105 models.

Besides replacing the motherboard there's not much you can do.

Sorry.

Issue

The computer models listed above may display a "Password =" prompt when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is fixed.

If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.

The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider, who will fix the problem at no charge to you.

Resolution

If this problem has not yet occurred on your computer, then click the following link to download and install BIOS version 1.40. This BIOS displays a power-on password prompt only when a power-on password has actually been set via the BIOS Setup program.

You may also browse for a newer version of the computer's BIOS at pcsupport.toshiba.com.

For more help, see Support Bulletin 98081213 Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.

If the problem has already occurred on your computer, then please make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem fixed at no charge. To locate a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP), please visit Toshiba's Global ASP Locator at http://pcrepair.toshiba.com

BTW, I've heard that this only happens when you boot up on battery power.

Maybe you can confirm this...
