Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB7600A Jetclean® II Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

It has started sounding really, really loud with a long grinding sound and then like a swishy sound for a short break, then the grinding sound again.

Its like it is grinding in a cycle, does that make sense? It grinds (about 3-5 seconds) and then there is a littel break, then a grind, then a break (about 1-2 seconds). It does it in every cycle except the rinse only cycle. All others it happens until it hits the rinse cycle then it quits. It is really, really loud....any ideas?

I have had the same problem for the last month or so until it stopped working all together yesterday. I now hit the start button and turns on like it is going to start but then it never starts.

The grinding noise was very concerning. please advise.

At 75 minutes remaining (starts at 81 minutes with our settings) it grinds away for a 5 seconds at a time with a few second break repeatedly for ten minutes, then gives up and goes onto 74 minutes and continues! Dishes still come out fine but clearly it didn't do this when new!

Sounds like a piece of broken glass or hard fruit pit stuck in the garburator. Remove the botom rack and disassemble the eniter assembly located below the bottom rack. Keep track of the order of the parts until you reach the stainless steel garburator blade. If you are not mechanicaly inclined, take video of the dissasembley to help you put things back together. You will probably find a foreign object by the time you reach the blade. Continue disassembling the assembly below the garburator to ensure that the drainage ports are not obstructed. Consider re-assembling without the garburator blade to avoid recurring problems. Substitute Garburator blade with routine disassembley and cleaning every 3-6 months. Sadly thats the best way to overcome the failure prone Garburator mechanism. When its time to buy a new D/W, buy one with a filter instead of a garburator. I recommend Miele and recomend against all Whirlpool brands (Maytag, Jennair, KitchenAid, Kenmore, Whirlpool, WhiteWestinghouse, etc.)

When Garburators Jam, you risk overheating that can melt the overpriced circuit board or overheat the motor. Either problem means discarding the dishwasher becasue the repair cost would be too high. The Garburator is a disgusting idea anyway. Instad of allowing food particles to sit at the bttom, the sme particels are minced and sprayed over the dishes that you are trying to clean.

Dishwasher is making a loud noise

Sounds like there is something in the filter trap that is right before the mini disposal that is a fan blade, on top of the motor.

Loud sounds

Many Frigidaire dishwashers come with the promise of being the "quietest dishwasher in its class," according to Frigidaire. However, a quiet dishwasher doesn't necessarily mean that the dishwasher is silent, as some noises are normal. It can take some troubleshooting at times to determine if a noise coming from the dishwasher is typical or if it indicates a larger problem Listen for the sound of water filling and draining throughout the wash cycle. These sounds are normal and do not indicate an issue.

  • 2 Pay attention to the drain motor, which operates at the beginning of each cycle. This noise should be fairly quiet and should not sound like a loud, grinding or banging sound.
  • 3 Note that the sound will change when the wash cycle moves between the lower and middle spray arms. This sound should be temporary and fairly quiet.
  • 4 Look for hard items in the dishwasher grinder or filter if a loud crunching, buzzing or grinding sound is heard. The dishwasher can typically grind up these items within one or two cycles, but the item may be lifted out and discarded to eliminate the sound.
  • 5 Remove the bottom rack and spray arms from the bottom of the dishwasher if there is a loud noise coming from the dishwasher that does not resolve itself. Look inside for the impeller, which is round and spins. Remove any debris that may be clogging up the impeller or pump.

Shortly after cycle starts, a whirring sound starts, is this a problem with the motor?

with LG dishwashers: after starting, 1st, DW pumps out any remaining water, 2nd, DW fill fresh water, 3rd, main wash motor starts, which is normally a whirring sound. (If you here grinding or rattling, then you have a problem.)

Top drawer of dishwasher is making really loud"motorlike" sound. sounds like something is **** in the motor? Just started out of the blue.

The noise could be coming from the motor assembly. It is the grinding sound of rotor roughing against some hard food particle in the rotor cavity. Most likely a chicken bone or seed.

Take the rotor out and check. Refer to user manual for checking rotor cavity. It is possible the rotor may be damaged in which case you will need to replace it.

Check for bones/glass/ceramic from chipped plates in the food chopper (for lack of a better term). You'll need to disassemble the entire lower arm unit.

    Dishwasher making loud noise

Newer washers are designed with a food grinder inside to help grind up large pieces of food. What you are hearing is the grinder doing its job. You do not need to worry about the noise. It should go away after a while as the food particle is ground up.
