EVO D500 doesn't boot up from my 120gb hard drive

I've tried to upgrade the hard drive in my EVO D500 from 40gb to 120gb. The computer detects it but when I want to boot up from it it gets stocked. Can anybody give me any idea on how to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance

Yes, I ghosted my 40gb to the 120gb, so i can use my 40gb for storage only.

ghosted?! guess you've used Norton Ghost! anyway, check for the jumper of the hard disk if it is set to Master. if still it won't work, set it to 'Cable Select'

if the 'Master' select works set the jumper for the other hard drive to 'slave'

do the first step without connecting the 2nd hard drive and see if it boots up.

    goodluck!

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause you problems

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

check you CPU make sure its securely seated and has thermal grease

hope this helps

How do I install an operating system on my Compaq EVO D500? The hard drive has been wiped clean and there is no operating system on it. I have a windows 98 SE uprade disk.

Hi, you can only use an upgrade disk for win98 if you have win95. If you do not want to purchase an OS, look into linux. I've been very happy with openSUSE and Ubuntu.

Vintron 845G Upgradation to 1GB RAM

You asked this question in 2008 and got an answer. Did you go to Crucial and run their scan?

Download and run Belarc. It will tell you more about your computer. Based on the information you have provided, your system will not support more than 256mb or 512mb of memory. It might support a 120GB disk.

I'd throw it in the junk pile and buy a new computer.

Im trying to upgrade my hard drive from a 40g to a 160 but it only shows up as 40gb

You probably used software to "clone" the "old" disk-drive to the "new" disk-drive. So, the "new" drive is an *EXACT* image of the 40GB drive.

Click Start
Point to My Computer
Click with the SECOND (usually the RIGHT) mouse-button.
Click Manage
Double-click Storage
Double-click Disk Management (local)
You'll see that the "last" 120GB on the new disk are "unallocated".

Use that "disk-cloning" software to "resize" the 40GB partition on the new disk-drive, to integrate that "unallocated" space into the current partition.

Or, right-mouse click on that "unallocated" space, and create a partition within that space, and to "format" that space, and to assign a drive-letter (E: ? F: ?) to that 120GB of disk-space.

Openign the case of evo d500

I just worked on one. You have to make sure the buttons on each side are fully pushed in, then grab onto it and pull forwards while kind of shaking it. It came off straight upwards. Hope it works for you. Good luck. I don't think it had the option to add another drive but I wasn't looking so I could be mistaken.

Weird hard drive won't boot

How to set jumpers to run two hard drives

Haven't read anything about setting up either of them as slave and the other as master... if you don't do that... you get this sort of "HUH, what's going on." Not quite that simple, but not that hard either if you're IQ is probably at least 80, you should be able to do it... heck, half the drives have the jumper settings printed on them.

You can solve this by going into the bios setup & changing the boot order. Make the dvd/cd drive 1st in boot line then hdd. This should allow you to boot up from the windows xp disc. Hope this helps & please rate this solution fixya. Thanks.

My son changed towers and upgraded to another power supply

How long have you waited for it to boot up? Sometimes I have seen it sit on the logo for like 10 minutes thinking about the boot configuration. Also you might change out your hard drives and cd's and DVD's and check your jumper settings on all of them to see if any conflict with each other.
