You have to run a head cleaning cycle:
Follow these steps to clean the print head:

  1. Make sure the Stylus CX is on and the Black ink not printing - cp_light_183_er.gif ink light is off.

  2. Hold down the ink button for 3 seconds until the cp_light_1.gif On light starts flashing. alert_note.gif Note: If you don't see any improvement after cleaning the print head three times, turn off the Stylus CX and wait overnight. This lets any dried ink soften. Then try cleaning the print head again.

If you do not use your Stylus CX often, it is a good idea to print a few pages at least once a month to maintain good print quality.

SOURCE: Can't Print with black ink because all color ink are empty.

Hi

In case you have removed the empty colour cartridge from the printer put it back it will allow you to print. If the empty cartridge is still there and its not allowing you to print in black ink then you need a new colour cartridge .

Please contact for any further clarification.

Thanks

SOURCE: won't print with just black ink cartridge

A part solution is print/properties/maintenance/ink cartridge settings/select black only.

You do initially have to buy another color cartridge but you won'thave to buy another expensive color cartridge again in the future.

SOURCE: epson stylus C88 won t print color ink black is

If you have carried out 4 to 5 head cleans, waited about 8 hours and done another 3 or head cleans doing nozzle checks after each clean (as recommended by the manual) and there is still no improvement then you will need a third party head cleaning solution such as this one:
http://websites.uk-plc.net/UK_Inkjet_Cartridges_PLUS/products/Print_Head_Cleaner.htm
Other makes & brands are available just google "inkjet head cleaning solution" Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Installed new ink on ip4200.

The ink tank requires air to flow through it so ink can move from the reservoir to the print heads.

  1. Confirm there is no orange tape across the top of the ink tank

  2. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (A), it is properly removed.

  3. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (B), remove the remaining tape to the level shown in Figure (A).

  4. Make sure each ink tank is snapped into the printer.

Can i print black and white text only when colour cartridges are empty but black is full on an ip14300?

you can make a selection from the File->Print option of your word processor or whatever package you are using. it is your command that sets the printer to B&W or color. If your Black ink finishes then the printer even if set to color will print black as near black with color inks.
