I agree with dragonlord and my opinion is from hard experience-I foolishly tried to find a pci for my T20 on ebay, and a dishonest seller was more than happy to take my money, knowing it would not work. I use a Netgear WPN511 instead and it works great, only I have to plug it in every time I start it up (not a big deal)

I have a T40 IBM that just got the 1802 error. downloaded a bootable fix that I made to a CD. Set both startup and network to look for the CD drive first. Cannot get past the double beep on the POST test...

Hello,

To correct this issue, you will need to remove the PCI wireless card from your laptop or disable the mini PCI settings in the BIOS menu.

On IBM's, the Mini PCI card slot is usually at the back of computer.

After removing card or disabling the
mini PCI settings in the BIOS menu, boot your computer. Make sure to update your BIOS. The new BIOS version can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.

This issue has been corrected in the latests BIOS updates released.

After updating the BIOS, you can reseat the PCI Wireless card or enable the mini PCI settings in the BIOS menu.

Note that once you have removed the wireless card, you will not have wireless connection until you update the bios and replace it.

Hope this helps.

IBMThinkPad T40 Wont connect to wireless networks.

Hello, if you see a yellow exclamation mark it means device drivers are not installed or are incorrect.
below is the link for IBM/Lenovo site that lists all the drivers for Thinkpad T40/T41. Go to that linkand scroll down to " Wireless Networking" and select the appropriate drivers: eg: Make sure it under T40 section, and not T41 since they are listed side by side.
since i am not sure which exact wireless card your T40 has i am posting this main link where it lists all options.
I would start with "ThinkPad 802.11bg wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter" if this doesn't work try next one in the list.
here is the link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-46258.html#wireless

I hope this helps, let me know if there is a problem.

Kind reagrds,

Amar Sondhi

I have a problem.. i lost my driver for my wifi. ibm t40 think pad.. where can i download it??

First place to try is the IBM support site, which is now Lenovo.
If that does not work, try using a driver finder product. That might be able to identify the wifi card and find a driver for it.

IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 PC Notebook error 1802: unauthorized netword card isplugged in my laptop cannot boot because of this probs

This is ussually caused by an unsupported WiFi card being installed. You can correct this problem by using a quick BIOS hack... (If you are getting the 1802 error)

Go to this site for the fix: http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/thinkpad-1802-error-fix/

Wifi connection lost when power cord is connected / disconnected

in the battery management you must have selected a power plan other than maximum performance... so it would do this to reduce power consumed... put your powerplan in maximum performance to resolve this...

IBM R40 2722 1802 Error Message

This is due to the fact that IBM laptops have a list of accepted devices, and the pci card is not recognised in the list. On IBM - Amilo, Mini PCI card slot is usually at the back of computer. Locate and remove Mini PCI wireless card, you will not have integrated wireless after this.
Other solution is to find the option to disable mini PCI in bios settings.
Here is how mini pci wireless card looks like:
