I have an asus eeepc seashell series and i turned it on and it says reboot and select proper boot device and i dont know what that means or how to do it

Power laptop, when asus logo is seen, look down bottom right, press F12 or the number assigned for your model, use the arrows up down keys on the laptop keyboard, highlight hard drive and press enter, this will set the boot order for your hardware to start.

The fn hotkeys f3 to f12 are not working.

It could be a key problem or a connection problem, cleaning the contacts helps by using contact cleaner. You can also remove the keyboard and clean the ribbon contacts and place it back again. At times it works but if not you need to replace your keyboard.

My keyboard sucks

You will need to replace the keyboard.

You can buy one here and install it yourself with a srewdriver.

http://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Asus-EEEPC-EEE-Black/dp/B0032GVEDG

Power down the 901 and remove the battery pack.
There are 3 retainers along the top edge of the keyboard near the F1, F6 and F12 keys. Slide a thin blade or screwdriver between the case and the keyboard frame next to a retainer and lever the frame over the retainer. Repeating this for the remaining 2 retainers will free the top edge of the keyboard. Lift the top edge of keyboard and slide it towards the display to release the 2 catches holding the bottom edge keyboard in place.
Carefully move the keyboard to reveal the connector on the motherboard for the keyboard's flexi cable. Use a small screwdriver to release the black retaining clip on the connector by sliding one end of the clip at a time away from the connector a few mm. The flexi cable should easily slide free allowing you to remove the keyboard completely.
Reverse the procedure to replace the keyboard.

Hope this helps!
