I have no sound on my ipod and apopup say generic volume running

Damaged hardware is responsible for the most obvious iPod sound problems.
In such cases, Apple may be able to help you fix the problem, depending on the status of your warranty.
All iPods have a one-year warranty according to Apple's website.
Software problems can also affect your audio.
For example, downloading a non-certified Apple application can stop your sound from working correctly.
Returning your iPod to its original factory settings fixes many of these software glitches.

Plug in a different set of headphones and test the sound.
If that set works, your old headphones were the cause of your audio problems.
If your iPod still doesn't work, proceed.
Remove an application on your iPod Touch if you installed it right before your sound stopped working.
Hold your finger over the top left corner of the application.
It will shake.
Touch the "X." Touch the "Home" button.
Restore your iPod to fix other potential software problems.
Open iTunes. Plug the iPod into your computer with a USB cord.
Click on your iPod on the left-hand menu.
The iPod will be listed under the name you assigned it when you first set it up.
Click the "Restore" button on the menu.
Leave the iPod alone while it restores.
It may take several minutes.
Test the sound once the restore is complete.
The iPod syncs after restoration.
Once the sync is complete, the process is over.
Contact the Apple Technical Support line at 1-800-275-2273 if your audio still doesn't work.
Have your iPod with you.

My iPod touch 4th gen is disabled and won't shut off, what do I do?

The iPod 4G (fourth generation) is easy to restore to factory settings. This may reinstall the software, and it always wipes all music, video and other data from the iPod. Restoring is the most effective way to fix problems with the iPod that haven't been fixed through traditional troubleshooting. You will not be able to retrieve data from your iPod 4G once it's restored, so make sure you back up your information first.

Plug your iPod 4G into your computer with its dock connector USB cable. Install the most recent version of iTunes and open iTunes. Wait a moment for your iPod to appear in the side bar. Click on your iPod in the side bar and select "Restore." A pop-up window will ask if you're sure you want to clear your iPod and restore to factory settings. Click "Continue" and enter your password, if prompted. Leave the iPod untouched and on a flat surface while it restores to original settings. It's important that you don't try to disconnect or use the iPod while it's restoring. You'll see a progress bar either on the iPod or your computer that indicates how far along the process is. Select your new syncing settings (automatic sync or manual) when prompted after the restore is complete.

I need to restore my vista to factory setting as I have a virus on my computer so I am using my laptop to try and find out how to complete this procedure ;please could you help me . regards Jackie

System restore is a tool that allows you to take settings for windows back a few days or even weeks to a time when your computer worked better. This has worked to fix problems when antivirus tools couldn't fix a problem.
To use system restore click the START BUTTON, choose ALL PROGRAMS.
Click the ACCESSORIES folder, and choose SYSTEM TOOLS.
Choose SYSTEM RESTORE, after a brief delay as settings are checked you will be given the option to revert your computer to a date when it worked better.
Once you've selected the date when you're sure it worked better system restore will adjust settings, reboot the computer, and adjust settings again on startup. The process takes about 30 minutes.
If you have selected a date that's not far enough back you can repeat this process with an earlier date.

Disable your internet security while trying to connect. Enable it after you have finished doing whatever you needed to do with itunes. You may also be able to include itunes and the itunes store in the websites acceptable to your internet security software.
