My speakers work Only when I test them in the control panel. So, I know the speakers work, I don't know why I have no sound for playing CD's, or watching videos online, or playing card games. No sound when I turn on the computer, no error dings... that may be a blessing. But I went to control panel, clicked on sound, tested the speakers, and they both work. I can't get them to spontaneously play when they're supposed to.

I have the very same problem. My computer crashed (blue-screened) , since then I have no sound. The speakers work when I run a test on them, but not when I want to play music( off i-tunes that I downloaded for my iphone), and no sounds for anything related to the use of my computer.

I plugged the speaker but still i cannot hear any sound.

check your control panel>sound and devices>audio, you must see an option that state your sound device, if you don't have that option their might probably a problem with your sound driver.

I am unable to get any sound through the speakers although they appear to be OK. Do I need to download a connection again? I cannot get any sound from any source, I tunes, Email attachments, videos...

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer hope this helps

Very bad echo, on my NEW Acer laptop 8730G-6945

I had this problem for months - I finally figured it out on my own...

Go to your RealTek HD Audio Manager (this is either a red speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner or if you go to 'control panel, sounds speak and audio devices, realtek hd sound effect manager)

once you have the window open, under 'sound effect, go to environment and to the right of the drop down menu, click 'RESET'.

After months of trying to fix this issue, this fixed it for me!!! I hope it does for you too!

Check these things:

1) Click the Start menu button > Click Control Panel (Or Settings > Control Panel), Click Sounds and Audio Devices > Click the Audio Tab: Do you have a Default Device listed under Sound Playback and MIDI playback?

This also may say "Available Device" which you could change to the other option in the drop-down menu as a test. If you change it, restart first, and then attempt sound.

2) Press and hold "Windows Logo" Key + Press the "Pause Break" key on your keyboard > Click Hardware tab > Click Device Manager:

Do you have a multimedia driver configured and installed with no problems. (Problems being exclamation points or with a red "x")?

There are many other issues that can cause this. Please check these first and let us know.

Speakers not working, but cables all plugged in...

No drivers for your soundcard, this is a computer issue not a speaker issue, contact dell, if you can understand a word they say, ask them "I have Dimension (model number here), I need to know how to install my sound drivers", if you dont know how to do this.
