That means you have a plugged lower port in the basket and it needs cleaning.

I had this problem from the time I bought my machine. Here's an easy way to fix it. Open the handle.Take the rubber seal ring off the needle (that the water comes out of to brew the coffee). Place an "o" ring over the needle and put the rubber seal back on the needle. This will shim the seal down closer to the reusable "K" cup (if that's what you're using). This will create a tight seal. No more leaks. No more spraying coffee grounds. No more hot water burning your hands. I discussed this with Kuerig and they we're suppose to have their engineers call me to discuss this fix. They never called. Result? Burnt customers and their coffee maker recall. Oh well. Anyway, this will take care of your problem. Enjoy your coffee...
