Why does the dryer take an hour and a half to dry a load of clothes

GE dryers usually have more than one heating element. Your machine probably has one failed heater and one good heater. The dryer will not get hot enough with only one heater working.

Unplug the machine! Check the heaters for continuity with a multimeter and replace if no continuity.

If the heaters are good, a faulty operating thermostat can also cause this symptom. It can turn the heaters off before the machine reaches the normal operating temperature.

Poor air flow can also contribute to slow drying. Check for lint buildup blocking airflow inside the machine and the vent duct.

Will only heat a little, not enough to dry clothes. vent is not blocked

Some dryers have more than one heater. You could have one of two heaters failed.

Another possible cause is a faulty thermostat that does not allow the heater to reach full operating temperature. Most dryers have more than one thermostat.

A lack of air flow can also cause poor drying. Lint can build up inside the machine as well as in the exterior vent.

Dryer is not drying fast enough

The most common cause of slow drying is poor venting. Make sure the lint screen is cleaned after each load and that the vent pipe from the back is clear. (If you're using the white plastic vent tubing, get rid of it and replace it with rigid duct or corrugated flexible duct. It's less likely to clog with lint, and the the plastic stuff is a fire hazard.)

Check the airflow out of the dryer with the vent pipe disconnected - there should be a good, strong flow. If it's weak, the fan blade inside may be slipping on the motor shaft. If you've noticed any odd rumbling noise while drying clothes, that might be the cause. This will increase drying time, and may cause the machine to shut down the heat as well.

If this is an electric dryer, there may be trouble with the heating element. The temperature selector switch may have problems so that the dryer doesn't reach the heat you think it's set for (both gas and electric dryers).

Check the venting first, though. Hope this gets you going again, and thanks for using Fixya!

Not drying enough

usually not drying enough, follows the statement long dry times, 2 or 3 cycles to complete the dry,
inspect your vent exhaust, and the entire length of the vent
you may have some sort of restrcction slowing down the exhaust which will cause heavy cycles,
the heat backs up inot the machine, and causes false high heat

Gas dryer not drying clothes

Hi, Dryers are simple machines to fix yourself so the main reasons dryers do not dry cloths is listed below.
1. Make sure the vent is clear from obstruction of lint built up by taking off vent and make sure the vent flap is opening when dryer is on, beware most house fires are caused by neglect of dryer vent!
2. People allot of times overload machine which causes cloths not to dry.
3. Electrical Repair Needed: one of the thermostats in the dryer are defective

Not drying

the steam gets condensed back to water and pumped away so sometimes draining problems cause poor drying. is the machine plumbed in according to handbook?
also your dryer filter may be blocked but this is not accesable without the dryer box being stripped down.

Heats but won't dry

I'm not at all familiar with the Malber brand, but I do know that the basics any dryer needs to work are: 1. Heat 2. tumbling (so the air can reach all areas of the wet clothes) and 3. air flow, so the moist air is removed from the dryer.

The number one cause of poor or no drying is poor air flow. Check the end of the vent outside to see if you are getting a strong flow of air out when the dryer is running. I'll bet you are not. Find out why and correct. (clean out lint, reduce or better yet eliminate any flex duct, try to make vent pipe as short and straight as possible, use a dryer vent end cap which has a large opening, etc.)

DRY TIME IS VERY EXCESSIVE

Excessive drying time can be caused by a number of things.

Is the vent clear of obstructions? If not then the vent and ducting will have to be cleaned. This ch be checked by removing the vent hos from the back of the machine and testing the dry time with a small load of a couple of towels.

Is the temperature hot inside of the dryer? If not then the heating element may have a problem.

Is the washer spinning most of the water out of the clothes? If not then the dryer is overworking to remove the water.

Is the dryer fairly old or was it a "scratch and dent" floor model? Then there may not be an adequate seal around the dryer drum and a lot of drying potential is lost.

Is there lint build up in the blower or is the blower not spinning? This cause the air to not circulate. It can be checked by removing the rear duct hose and running the machine.

LG DLG2532 Gas Dryer will only dry on manual setting

If you use dryer sheets, LG recommends no.  Dryer sheets cause a film that will not allow the sensors to feel the clothes moisture during the drying process thereby causing the computer to countdown the timer quickly.  To clean out the sensors, use a green pad and scrub the sensor bars inside the dryer drum.  That should remove the film left by the dryer sheets.
