Question about usb download

I recently bought a new computer. It is Vista Home Premium operating system. Can I download the old usb that uses 98SE/2000/Me/XP to my computer? If not, what can I do to view the pictures from my camera on my computer? Thank you for your help.

Try going to vivitar website and they should have a plug in for it if the camera is a recent make. see if your computer has a card reader in it. It will be a slot that you memory card can fit in. if not you can buy one at any camera store and use the vista editing software.

I can't find the driver(s) for a Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D Canera. I found one for Windows 95/98 but it will not work with the Vista 32 bit Home Premium Operating System.

You don't need a driver. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Many times the older version drivers will work as new released operating systems try to be backwards compatible with software. Try loading the XP software or search the Canon website for updated software for your model.

Camera won't work with vista

Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

I have always advised folk to leave the software disk in the box when connecting cameras and the like to a NTFS system. Plug it into USB port and Windoze will find it. Should be the same with Vista I guess Leave the disk in the box- or of you have installed stuff uninstall it. And let Windoze do the work.
