I also have a Vivitar 79-210mm 1:4.5-5.6 MC auot focus zoom which I use on my Minolta Maxxum 3xi 35mm camera. I also want to change to a digital. Is it worth keeping this lens and findinga digital camera which will fit this lens? Thks Ken

SOURCE: Camera lens stuck!

Hello Friend,
First i would let you know that the Brand Vivitar is one of low quality cameras, it's sad but it's true.
Now regarding the issue that you have with the lens, you probably drop it because this the only way to have the lens stuck. but anyway, to repair it it will cost you more than a new one. and again i suggest to buy a branded camera like Canon,Sony,Nikon,Panasonic ... these are top quality cameras and you will not have any problem for life except if you drop it ;)
Best Regards,

Yes and yes. Bear in mind that not all features may work. You probably won't get autofocus or metering with the Nikon D90, for example.

No. Minolta and Canon cameras have completely incompatible lens mounts.

Cameras compatible with Quantaray AF 70-300mm lens

Depending on how new your Minolta SLR film camera was, the lens may or may not work on a Minolta Digital SLR. In many cases, a lens with the correct mount (in this case, a Minolta mount) can be used on the same brand of camera in the digital format.

One thing you should know is that DSLR sensors are, generally speaking, smaller than the size of a 35mm film negative. Long story short, that means that your lens will have a magnification factor on the DSLR. Usually, it is in the range of 150%, so a 70-300 lens from a film camera would cover 105 to 450 on a Digital SLR.

To be sure about the mount, you'll need to seek advice specific to Minoltas -- probably best to take your lens to a local camera shop and see for sure if it fits and what features will work (aperature, auto-focus, etc) and which won't work on the DSLR.

What cameras does this lens fit?

Vivitar made this lens with several different mounts, including mounts for Canon and Minolta cameras. Your best bet is to take the lens with you to a large camera store. The staff at the store may be able to simply identify which mount your lens has, or they can try the lens on different camera bodies to see which it fits.

Used on a Minolta Maxxum 800 si

Hello
The Minolta AF lens will fit and work on most of the Minolta AF bodies (it will depend on exactly what lens it is as to the compatibility), you will also find that it will fit and work with the new range of Sony
digital SLR camera bodies.

The Quantaray lenses are a little bit more difficult as Quantaray make lenses for several different types of camera body, it should mention on the lens what make the lens mount is for. If you post further information about the lenses it might help.

Minolta 7000 Maxxum

The Minolta Maxxum 7000 uses a Minolta A mount, which is also used on the Sony Alpha series, as they bought out Minolta's technology. All Maxxum lenses should work for the most part on the Sony Alpha series of DSLR's, including the autofocus.
