Vertical Flashing Lines on Toshiba 42HP84 Plasma 42"

I acquired a Toshiba 42HP84 plasma TV in need of repair. When powering on the TV it produces a row of flashing vertical lines (red / orange / yellow in color against a redish/orange background). A white jagged horzontal line in the middle of the screen also is displayed with the vertical lines. This appears (on/off) at approximately 1 second intervals -- non-stop.

I took the TV to an authorized Toshiba repair shop -- obtained an estimate but declined the service based on the repair cost they quoted. I did ask if they would give me the part number or description of the component needed to fix the TV and he reluctantly gave me the following information: The problem is with the "PCB" ("Power Control Board") -- it has a "BAD POWER LOB+". I obtained a service manual for the unit and found no reference to either of these descriptions.

Can anyone help with this problem?

Thanks

Troubleshooting PCB's of certain electronic units require advanced technical skills. no service manual of any source would provide specific solutions. the best you can get are schematic diagrams. if your field of expertise is not related to electronics, i suggest you let the technicians handle the problem for you. every shop have their repair cost qoutations. just be sure to ask for warranty of their repair. goodluck!

This is most likely the whole power board, I would replace it fully or replace faulty component(s)

you need to locate the power control board, if your not experienced in electronics its best that you replace the whole board, easyest that way. Find the board, where the power goes in, confirm that it is the board the tech ment, find the part number details on it and find a replacement with the details.

I can look for a replacement if you post the details or you can look for it yourself, i've seen tv components (hard to find components) sold in ebay www.ebay.com do a search there.

Intermittant vertical black bars on 42HP84

there is a good chance that I can solve your problem, although for me and others this problem usually shows itself as black bars that go from top to bottom, not just half way.  go to the following link and read the entire thread, it is very good info.  I have done this and it worked perfectly on a gateway plasma, but it also works on numerous others.  there is a guy on ebay that sells a fix for $80, and it appears to be exactly what i did.

just repaired one of these with the same fault. at the bottom of the plasma panel you will see a row of ribbon connectors, on the back of the ribbon connectors are some surface mount components. resolder these components on the offending connector, clean the contacts on the ribbon connector and reconnect. unfortunately getting to the connectors is quite a job, so give yourself plenty of time. if this doesn't cure the fault then the poor connection is on the plasma panel which you cannot repair, the only option then would be to replace the panel.

I gather there is no picture in that portion at all? If it is totally black then you have a addressing issue to the plasma panel itself. Can you post a picture of the issue?
