Hello,
If batteries are inserted correctly you can adjust the contrast
Press [2nd] key and release it
Press and hold [UPArrow] key to darken till contrast is dark enough.

To enlighten screen, do as above but use the [DownArrow] key.
Hope it helps.

I've had my ti-86 for a very long time & recently it just quit working. I changed the AAA batteries & the back up battery & it will not come back on. Please help???!!!!

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

How can i fix the message om the TI-83 RAM Cleared?

It is possible that the backup battery is depleted and cannot keep the RAM refreshed when the calculator is turned off. I suggest you change the backup battery immediately.

There's something wrong with my TI-83. When I'm typing up an equation it will randomly shut off. And when it's on it will have shown that the RAM was cleared. Now it sometimes takes like 5 presses of the...

Have you tried changing the batteries? I'd try that first thing. From your description, the problem sounds like you have low batteries. The RAM shouldn't clear itself when you turn the calculator on unless you tried to turn it on when the calculator didn't have any juice. The TI-83 has four AAA batteries and one CR1616 battery it uses for memory backup. The CR1616 isn't enough to power the calculator, just enough to keep your calculator from losing its RAM contents while the primary batteries are out. If you try to power the calculator on without primary batteries, the backup fails. However, the TI-8x line is usually pretty good about warning you when the batteries are low by displaying a big warning message when you turn it on about the batteries being low and a recommended change of batteries. It might not, though, so you really can't be sure until you try a fresh set of batteries. Good luck!

I've replaced all the batteries including the backup battery on my TI-86 and it still doesn't power on. I also tried adjusting the contrast.

It sounds like the calculator is broken. Well broken past the point where you can fix it by yourself. You can try contacting TI about the warranty.

TI-84 Plus Silver Edt...unable to power up

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't work, try a hard reset. Remove one of the four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key. While holding down the ON key, replace the battery.

I have no power to my ti-83 plus, I changed batteries and the backup battery is still good

Hello,
When you change the batteries the display reverts to default setting. My optimistic guess is that the screen display is so light that you cannot see anything on it. This can be arranged.

A Try this before thinking of repairs.

  1. Push the ON button.
  2. Even if you see nothing, press the [2nd] key and release it.
  3. Press and HOLD the UpArrow key until the screen darkens.
  4. You may have to keep pressing UpArrow for a little while before you see anything.
B If that does not work
  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries.
  2. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key.
  3. Whileholding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then
  4. turn the calculatoron.
  5. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared".
  6. Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message "RAM Cleared".
C. Third option

  1. Remove batteries including the backup battery for 5minutes.
  2. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and
  3. turn the calculator on.
  4. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
D. Last option

The last option requires the reinstallation of the system. So to use it you must download the TIConnect 1.6 software from education.ti.com. You must have the TI USB SilverLink or the TI Black serial cables ready. You must be connected to the Internet.
  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries.
  2. Press and hold the [DEL] key.
  3. Whileholding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then
  4. turn the calculatoron.
  5. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now".
  6. Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the computer and the calculator.
  7. Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader.
  8. Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.
If the message "Error! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit backon." appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one battery from the calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.

If all else fails you can contact Texas Instruments at ti-cares@ti.com

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

maybe try changing the small memory battery inside, I think its a cr1616 or cr1620. If this doesn't work use it as a paperweight.

TI-89. Don't turn on.

I've did the same thing but, with Ti Connect Device Explorer software, I was able to reinstall the OS software. If it is that unresponsive take out all batteries including the backup battery for about 4 hours. I had to do that one time just to get unlocked from the graphing APP. Ti one time told me to miss with the arrow and ESC keys, and it works sometimes. Good Luck, and I hope this helps your posted problem.
