SOURCE: brush bar not spinning

Depending on the make and model the belt may be bad or if it has a clutch assembly then it has gone bad.

SOURCE: The brushes won't spin. I

Usually when the brushes won't turn it is due to a bad turbine. Insert a screwdriver into the square hole that the pin on the brush fits into, and see if it turns. If it is seized up, the turbine assembly will need to be replaced.

Brush bar does not spin and vacuum on capets. slight burn spell.

Burning smell is from the belt that turns the brush. Most the time hair or carpet fibers has it jammed up. Unplug vaccum. Turn it upside down and cut the tangled mess and remove it. Alot of the time the vaccine will be plugged up behind the brush and before the fill basin. Also remove the hose attachment and check from there to the are that makes contact with the floor behind the brush. Use a metal coat hanger to remove clogs. Dump basin and remove filters. Wash them or beat them against something outside to release the dirt. Put it all back together and do some house keeping.

Beater bar only spins when vacuum is locked & upright.

Your belt is probably stretched and can't turn the brush when it's on the floor. Replace the belt at least twice per year.

Why Dyson dc39 brush bar won't spin

Remove brush bar cover...is the belt broken, cut or stretched to the point of being ineffective? Is the brush bar full of hair or string?
Pull the belt forward...does the pulley spin? Turn the cleaner on
and see if the pulley spins...if it does I think a new belt will be needed.
Be sure to buy the right one.

    Regards,
    Dennis

My hoover spin brush steam vac brushes wont spin

Unplug vac turn it over and check for belts that drive the brushes
They are located at the very end of the brush They are probably missing
or they snapped and sitting in the housing somewhere. If you ar mechanically inclined not very difficult to replace. While you are at it clean all the hair and fibers that usually accumulate around the brush bushings
That is usually the culprit that wears down the belts

The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

    Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
    1. Turn off the power (unplug).
    2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
    3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
    4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
    5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

My dogs hair often accumulates in the spinning rod

Try spinning it by hand with no belt. If it is tight, dismantle the bearings at the end and clean out the hair . If it is loose then the problem is likely that your belt has stretched, Buy 2 genuine belts and keep a spare on hand. For best cleaning results , replace every 3- 4 months ( broken or not) , if you have a lot of pet hair

Ratchet noise, beater will not turn, belt not broken, in carpet mode the Dyson d07 makes huge ratchet noise and the belt will not turn the beater brush.

Ok, so I had the same ratching noise and took the advice of many sites directing me to clean the brush. But like most I cleaned the brush and the noise continues and the brush does not spin. Reluctant to take it to get serviced I dug a little deeper and now it works just fine. This is what you need to do as removing any hair from just the brush part will not be enough.
Remove the entire brush bar from the bottom of the Dyson, this means pulling the bar out of the drive belt. This is not to difficult just use a little muscle as the belt will stretch. Once the bar is out grasp hold of the two plastic end caps on the brush bar which the brush bar actual spins in. These two caps are connected by a slim metal rod which runs through the brush bar. Place one hand on each side and begin to twist and pull until one of the caps comes off. Once the cap is off of the one side you can pull the other cap from the other side through the brush bar as this cap will be the one attached to the slim bar I mentioned above. If like mine you will see a ton of hair wrapped around these caps and inside the ends of the brush bar. Clean them out as best as possible.
After you clean it out, run the cap with the rod back through the brush bar, attach the other cap and twist and push together. Make sure the caps lineup which each other just like they were when you pulled it out. You'll notice how much more freely the brush bar spins between the two caps then before you cleaned it. Now, pull on the drive belt and feed the brush bar back through and attach as it was to begin with. This did the trick for me.
