Question about Compaq Computers & Internet

1 Answer

What do escalation levels mean?

Does that mean they receive less attention? Or more because it's a harder question? I haven't had any comments, so folks must be clueless. I need a real techie.

To clarify exactly what I mean,

Inside my computer, there is a chip(AC module) that the power cord(AC Adapter) plugs into and that chip has a cable that connects to the motherboard (MOBO). This little chip has a light on it that lights up when plugged in. In my case, the light will not light up IF I have it plugged into the mobo. When it is disconnected from the mobo, it lights up. That proves the problem isn't the AC adapter OR the AC module.
I'm hoping someone can give me an idea where the next problem is. I would think it's a fuse or safety trip that protects the mobo from overload, but needs to be reset. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Please don't respond if you don't understand what I'm talking about. If you don't, you can't possibly have an answer for me.

Yes, that is the part. The name, however, is different in the service manual.

But like my post describes, when I have that part connected to the mobo, the light doesn't come on. However, when it isn't connected to the mobo, it lights right up. When I leave the module plugged into the wall, and attempt to attached the cable that is already connected to the mobo, I get the smallest lil sparkage, so I KNOW power is getting through the module.(DC Jack)

Well, my real problem is this:

    Compaq f572us
I have it broke broke down to essential components only.

when i have the ac adapter plugged in, i do not get a charge light around plug (at ac module) but when I disconnect ac module from mobo, and plug in the ac module to ac adapter, I get the light.
This being said, I know it's not the AC adapter or the AC module. What is the next point at which power may be refused on the mobo? Cmos reset? I pulled the battery and reseated it, but nothing. The computer should still post regardless. I bought a new mobo also to have the same problem so it can't be a fried mobo either. It has to be some power shut off somewhere on the mobo that prevents it from frying out, but I'm dead in the water until I get another idea.

I have re seated every piece including CPU, RAM, Harddrive, everything. My computer had the exploded view, inspected every piece as I put it back together, reassembled, and.... nada! Darn it!

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by ac adapter and ac module.
Surely you have a charger that has a plug on one end that you plug in to the mains, then the charger box it'self and then the lead from the charger box with the plug on the end that plugs in to the laptop. What do you mean by ac module?

Also you can not discount the charger if you have'nt tried another one. Why would you change the motherboard and not try another charger first, surely that would be the cheaper option. Something else to consider, some chargers seem ok but have a faults that can stop them supplying the correct amount of current that the laptop needs to come on. If you bought a new motherboard and have the same problem then it must be something to do with the charger, may be it has a bad connection on the wire where it enters the plug that you plug in to the laptop. It's a really common fault as the lead gets pulled about and twisted and bent over time.

Is this the AC Module you mean, because apparently this is the one for your machine. It's actually a DC jack board.
Theres a big list of different model it fits, yours is in the list.
If it is, there is a possibility that it could be that which is to blame for the fault.

I cant see properly from the image on that website but the big black component is a diode which can be tested with a multimeter, if it's shorted out it would read the same whichever way round you connect the multimeter's leads. You should get a high resistance reading one way and a low reading the other if it is ok. The other smaller ones near the edge look like resistors and a capacitor and maybe a surface mounted fuse but it's too hard to see.
The thing you would struggle to test it the little chip but that maybe something to do with the USB socket.

Home Theater Receiver turn itself off at higher volumes

Could be that the speaker are being over-driven. The harder a speaker is pushed, the lower the resistance becomes, and the receiver could be sensing it as being a short and shutting itself down to protect the amp.

Why is my deck not controlling my subwoofer level?

If your Sony receiver has a separate sub output, it probably has a fixed level for application to a powered sub. Your mono amp can only boost the fixed signal level it receives from your receiver. The receiver can't drive that mono amp harder

How many levels of escalation are there on fixya

Escalate is a process on FixYa that ensures each and every question you ask receives the attention it deserves.
When you ask a question on FixYa it initially goes to our Level 1 Experts. If these experts do not have an answer they can immediately escalate it to our Level 2 Experts, who have more experience solving problems on FixYa and are more likely to have your solution. This same process occurs when Level 2 Experts escalate a question to Level 3.
Questions can also be escalated by time-- if your question has not received an answer three hours after being posted it will automatically be escalated to Level 2; no answer after 12 hours of being posted will automatically escalate your question to Level 3.

Fixya question leval definitions

FixYa experts are broken down by levels based on the number of solutions they have provided over time. When you first submit your problems it is sent to the level one experts.

When your problem is escalated, this means that it is sent up to the next level of expert. Escalation can be done automatically based on the time since you have asked your question or manually by an expert that feels a higher level expert may be able to help with your problem.

Hope that helps!

I just received an item and it is damaged!

Do this:
Contact the seller. -As soon as possible you should contact your seller to advise that the item has arrived damaged. Check also if it comes with insurance.
Also, send a photograph of the damage - this can be as an attachment to your email. The seller may require the item to be returned to them and, again, you should comply with this but make sure you send the item by trackable means in case you later need to make a paypal claim.
Once the seller has decided to issue a refund this should be completed within a reasonable time. If the refund is not forthcoming you may open a paypal claim to obtain a refund. The claim is called 'Significantly Not As Described' SNAD) and will entitle you to a full refund less return postage costs. You will have to return the item by trackable means and enter the tracking number online.

If the seller does not reply. -File a dispute and escalate it to ebay. Ebay would tell you to send the item back and where to send it. There is no reason to communicate with the seller after the case has been escalated. Return the item with Delivery Confirmation. Once the item shows as delivered back to the seller, you will receive your refund.

Hope this helps.

FM 65R plays and sounds great for about 5- 10 minutes then it sounds weak and distorted. If I play directly into the power amp input it sounds great again just no control for the volume and tone.

Also the volume will probably be lower going into the line level PA input... If the amp is shutting down for thermal reasons, driving it less might not get to the point of shutdown. The schematic shows a temp sensor that reduces and shuts down the amp if the heatsinks get to hot. Possibly you are driving the amp harder than it is intended, If it is as loud (I doubt it) driving the PA input, then I would expect it to shutdown, but you would probably have to drive it harder than your guitar because guitar levels are well below line level. The amp claims 65 watts... don't believe everything you read in spec sheets... You should be able to generate 100 Db of sound with it... The more distortion you use will drive the amp harder and heat the heatsinks faster.
