You need to have a check over these

  • Loose wiring connections at the ignitor, the grounding strap, or spark module.
  • Broken or pinched ignitor wire between the burner and module

Hi,

If your concern is with only one of several, then possible culprits could be:

  • the heating element;
  • the switch.
Both of the above could be tested with a continuity tester.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    It would be to your advantage to postback the exact model number that more details be made available.

    Due to regional variations in design and manufacturing, some of the steps may differ slightly. To replace a defective heating element, please follow below procedures:

    • Before anything, pls make sure that the power to the Magic Chef Kitchen Range is off either at the circuit breaker or unplug from the mains;

    • Raise the cooktop. To do this, on some versions/models, the retaining trim must be removed by removing the retaining screws under the front edge of the cooktop;

    • Raise the cooktop;

    • the heating elements would now be exposed;

    • unplug the element's wiring harness. It is a good idea to mark the wires where they are connected or draw a connection diagram;

    • The entire cooktop could now be removed;

    • place the cooktop upside down on a flat surface padded with a blanket or rags to avoid scratching the cooktop;

    • Remove the defective element by undoing the screws holding the element mounting bracket to the cooktop;

    • turn over the element assembly to gain access to the temperature limiter and element;

    • Normally, the element is encased in a fragile insulated casting;

    • remove the wires from the element (again making a wiring diagram would be helpful);

    • Remove and replace the defective element and limiter by undoing the screws holding the element to its bracket;

    • lift away from the bracket. Install the new element and limiter assembly by reversing the dismantling steps;

    • Please make sure the new element is flat against the underside of the cooktop in the correct position;

    • Ensure that the element's wires are returned to the correct terminals/connectors.

    • Plug in the element's wiring harness;

    • close the cooktop and replace any retaining screws.
    Usually, a replacement element wold also have an instructions sheet (16000542) for a more appropriate procedure for your particular version/model.

Are you getting any fault codes? Check this relay board for coil voltage when the unit shuts down by itself. If the voltage is on the coil but not at the element, this relay board is bad.

    The relay board is controlled by the clock control.

    Does the clock display any codes?

Oven element does not heat up

Ok
1) does the clock come on
2) do the surface burners come on

if you have the clock (so power is getting in, but you can't get any thing to heat up.
You will need to test the outlet it is plugged into. You should be reading 110 from both the left and right sides of the outlet (totaling 220 ac) if you only get it from one side then the problem is in the wiring, and causing the stove to try and run on half the current it needs.

I live in a rental and tired to cook a chicken,some greese hit the coil burner in botton.I was standing in front when it had a flash fire out from between the door and the drawer.Is this a flaw in this...

That is to be expected when grease hits a heating element, just be cautious and always remember to use flour on a grease fire, not water.

Replacement Parts For Vintage Magic Chef stove

You probably have a 1940's model of Magic Chef. Check for the model number under the lid of the cook top on the upper right hand side of the stove. It should have the model number and the serial number, too. You will need both. The Old Applicance Club run by Jack Santoro is the place to go along with a site called "Antique gas stoves"in Georgia. Good luck with the world of vintage stoves.

is the element still in one piece and mostly smooth to the touch? if you find any part of the element very rough where it looks like it actually melted then you've found your problem. post an update if this doesn't solve the problem.
