SOURCE: won't shut down, won't finish boot - no functionability

I have had a similar problem since I bought this printer. When I make a copy or scan a document, the printer refuses to print anything else directly from the computer. If I turn offf the printer, I get the "printer is shuttting down" message in the display, however it never shuts down ( I've even left it overnight!) I have to pull the power plug out and wait ~30 seconds and then plug it back in to restore functionality in the print mode. I get some kind of nag screen at start up telling me that I didn't shut it down properly but I have just learned to ignore that. This problem is so consistant that I don't even try to print after making copies without unpluging the main power plug. Another issue you will probably run into is if you install Service Pack 3 on Win XP all your documents will print out in mirror image. HP's lame fix for this is to have you make custom settings in the print manager to remove the mirroring mode from the settings!! I am just about ready to change brands after being a faithful HP customer for over 25 years. They seem to have no interest in fixing known software issues anymore, as their push is to get new devices in the pipeline as soon as possible.
Good Luck

SOURCE: laptop randomly shuts down and shows a blue screen saying

Make sure you don't have any unecessary programs loading up into windows when your laptop boots up. The next time the system randomly reboots check to see if the laptop feels a bit warmer then normal. Could be that your air vents are being blocked by dust. That would cause the air not to flow properly. Take a can of air and blow the vents clear so the air can flow properly and that would take care of the problem.

What do I do now to get my tablet lock icon unlocked?

If you tried sliding the lock icon and it doesnt move in any direction, chances are that the tablet is frozen. In that case, hold the on/off button for about 5 secs or until the tablet turns off (it will vibrate as it turns off, this is different than just pressing the on/off button) or offers you an option to shut it down. Wait a couple of secs, the tablet will show the booting screen and then allow you to work with it, not just showing you the lock as soon as you turn it on. If it shows you the lock without the booting screen shown first, this means that you didn't really turn it off properly. Try holding the on/off button longer.!

Is there any sign of life? Does the system try to boot but shut down soon after starting or does it not respond to the on switch?
Do you have video via the motherboard or a plug in card?
Does the power supply give off a burnt smell? Sniff the vent. Does the power supply fan or CPU fan turn when switched on?
Are we talking desktop or laptop, notebook?

Gateway MT6707 Laptop...Will not boot. I get an error at start up to "fix problems or Start Windows Normally........I have tried both. Just gets to the screen That shows Gateway and Please...

You need to launch the Last know good configuration to get this fixed.

Follow the steps below,

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Last know good configuration".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.
Step 6: your PC will boot to the windows.

Won't load

Something is having a problem loading. Usually these are drivers or the last program installed.

When you boot start pressing F8 as soon as you see something. This is before the windows screen so you have to power on and start pressing F8. Then select Safemode. This will boot up windows without loading any drivers. Once you are in safemode then you can go to control panel and uninstall the last thing you installed. sometimes just booting into safe mode and then shutting down and rebooting normally will clear the error.

Having said that this can also be casued by a virus that has damaged windows files. You can repair your windows setup if you have the windows cd. If you have to use the system restore it may allow you to repair or attempt to but usally will try to wipe out everything and set it back to factory.

Compaq notebook won't boot up

Hi

When you boot the computer back up go into Safe Mode and check to see if you can roll the computer back to the point before you installed the software.

If so this should work. If it works then run a virus scan, a defrag of the hard drive and cleans the temp files.

OR

You can do a diagnostic startup and uninstall Onecare. So once that it is uninstall ed it should be smooth sailing.

Here is a link for some startup / diagnostic software you could try after booting.

I hope this helps

/Shawn
