Make sure you install both connectors (8 pin and 4 pin) also make sure you didn't accidently flip the on/off switch on the actual power supply to off while you were working on it.

SOURCE: signal to monitor goes in and out, mostly out

Hopefully, it is just the on board video that has gone bad, and not the motherboard. When you install a video card on a PC, that has on board or integrated video, you will need to access the BIOS screen on start up and disable the on board video. That way the video signal will come from the new video card and not the on board video.

I hope this helps,

Eric

SOURCE: my gateway 503gr will not

This could have a bad power supply (in this case I would try a new one just in case).
All other things being normal, I would guess a bad motherboard.
The best thing to do is disconnect everything but the CPU and memory and try to start it.
If it starts, then start connecting stuff until it doesn't start--this will tell you what is bad.

SOURCE: gateway 825gm wont tun on.

Make sure the small cable from the switch to the mother board hasn't come loose. It comes loose fairly easily when reinstalling the cooling fan plenum. Its happened to me twice. Its even possible to plug it in the wrong place. Doesn't hurt to double check.

remove all components like hard drive, cd/dvd ,memory and video card.
start system if you get beeps then the motherboard is responding.
add the memory and start system again. If it starts add hard drive.
What we are doing is testing to see which hardware here has failed.

did you replace the motherboard? if you did with a non gateway replacement there is a good chance you will have to re-wire the buttons.

if not, just look for an oddly shaped "gateway" plug that plugs into the receiving socket on the MB. If you dont own a multi meter and soldering iron now is a good time to invest. also get some wire strippers and cutters.

Gateway 505gr motherboard replacement

not powering up does not mean the mother board is bad , the power supply going bad is more likely to be the problem . But your tower is considered to be a mini tower ive got the same one that I replaced the mother board on . dont mess up and get the wrong size board , it will not fit!

Install the sound driver, (which can be found in the mother board's companion CD)
make sure in the "volume control" window of control panel that the mic volume and other volume indicators are full before trying to record.
