What do i need for replacement string? Can i go heavier or stay with the smaller string? This is for mastercraft 20v grass trimmer. thanks

the size of the string is critical in electric driven trimmers
it does have mass and the thicker string will over load the motor
stay with the recommended string size and keep to the recommended distance to the grass being cut
string line cutters work on the principle that the tip speed of the string is what does the cutting and that means that the first 1/2" of string cuts the grass
the rest back to the hub acts like a brake as it is dragged across the grass and slows the cutting speed and loads the motor
remember that the machine is designed to trim edges and not to cut down growth-- that is a job for heavier duty units

Replacing a Christmas light Bulb

Replacing a Bulb The ideal replacement is one from an identical "replacement" string bought at the same time as the "operating" string. Anything else is a much less desirable option. Many strings have two separate circuits of bulbs. Within each circuit, all the bulbs are wired in series. They each see the same small fraction of the line voltage, but only as long as the bulbs operate identically. Different strings can have bulbs of significantly different resistance, yet all bulbs will operate at the same voltage, as long as the bulbs are similar within a circuit. But if we place a high-resistance (typically dimmer) bulb in a generally low-resistance (typically brighter) circuit, that bulb can see far more voltage than it was designed to handle. In that situation, the bulb may simply burn out in a fraction of a second. Another issue seems to be warm-up time: All incandescent bulbs increase their resistance as they warm up. But even bulbs with the same ultimate operating voltage can warm up at different rates. And if a fast-warming bulb is placed in a slow-warming string, it can quickly see much more voltage than expected, and may blow out. It is much, much better to buy two strings to operate one string, and then use the other simply for replacement bulbs. But that requires prior planning. For existing strings, there may be an option: If two or more strings were bought at the same time, we can take one out of service, put it in a zip bag and use it for replacement bulbs. For existing lone strings, there still may be an option: Convert a 100-bulb string to a 50-bulb operating string and a 50-bulb dark replacement string. That can be as simple as taking bulbs as needed from one half of the string and using them in the other half. Of course, then we end up with half a string that looks like it desperately needs work. An alternative is to cut the string in the middle and end up with one fully-working short string plus a short string of replacement bulbs that we can keep in a bag. Typically, three wires are twisted together across most of a string, but only two are twisted at the start, middle, and end. So if we look for the two-wire section in the middle, we can cut there (after first turning the power off). On the working half, we can fold each of the two just-cut wires back upon itself and wrap each separately with tape, or separately insulate with electrical heat-shrink tubing.

HOW DO I INSTALL A NEW STRING IN A PRO CUT 11 for Ryobi RLT30CD trimmer

LINE REPLACEMENT (Fig. 8) (For Reel EasyTM Head) Use 2.4mm monofilament string. Use original manufacturer's replacement string for best performance. n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. n Cut one piece of string approximately 7.6m in length. n Rotate knob on string head until line on knob aligns with arrows on top of string head. n Insert one end of string into eyelet located on the side of the string head and push until string comes out through eyelet on the other side. Continue to push string through the string head until the middle section of the string is inside the string head and string outside the string head is evenly divided on each side. n Rotate the knob counterclockwise on the string head to wind the string. Wind the string until approximately 20cm remains protruding from the string head. INSTALLING STRING IN PRO CUT II STRING HEAD Use monofilament string between 2.4 mm and 2.7 mm diameter. Use original manufacturer's replacement string for best performance. n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. n Gather two of the pre-cut lengths of trimmer line provided or cut two pieces of trimmer line, in 28 cm lengths. n Insert the strings into the slots located on the sides of the string head. String should be pushed in until approximately 2 cm protrudes from the holes on the top of the string head. n Remove old string by pulling it from the holes located on the top of the string head. http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/pdfs/89/p4763889.pdf

I need directions to replace string on black and decker cordless 18v grasshog

Go to home depot. look at the floor model and the replacement spools they sell there. Reverse engineer the stringing process or but a pre-loaded spool.
Otherwise,
1. Squeeze the tabs on the side of the head of the unit to remove the spool cover.
2. remove spool.
3. place end of string in small hole in center ring of spool.
4. wide spool with string in the direction of the arrows printed on the spool. DO NOT OVERLOAD!.
5. snap string into notch on spool and cut string leaving 6" exposed.
6. thread 6" of string through hole in side of unit head, replace spool, and replace cover.
7. go cut grass.

String will not feed when bumped

I've never had any luck with those stupid bump heads. Every time I would refill them, the string would get caught up. They bind up. I finally replaced the bump head with a string head that you place short pieces of string in. They're not perfect either. You have to pre-cut the string to about 9-12 inches in length, and just replace the piece when it's time.

first of all be carefull of what you hit with the trimmer string if you hit sidewalks and rocks or dirt it will cut it short also you might make sure the tensil strength is strong enough to withstand the abuse the trimmers being subjected to :-)

Ryobi weed trimmer

I have one of this trimmers. It is simple to replace the line.
-First line up the arrows on the bottom of the spindle.
-Then feed the line back in one of the holes in the side of the spindle (this is the same hole that the cutting string comes out of).
-You will see the line come out of the bottom of the spindle.
-Take that line a place it in the hole on the bottom of the spindle.
-Leave about 9 feet of string hanging out of the weed eater (do the same with the other side).
-Then turn the inside wheel (I can't remember if it is clock wise or counter clock-wise but it will only turn one way) most of the string is rolled into the spindle.
-Cut the string of about 5 inches out of the weed eater. You're ready to cut!
