First you need the make and model of your board...if you don,t know this you'll find it printed on the board itself.
Look up your board on the manufacturers website and you'll find details of suitable ram...

Intel 946 mother board

You need at least 1GB of Ram Memory, and should have 2GB.
[512MB + 512MB = 1024MB or also stated as 1GB ]

The - Intel 946 - designator you have listed refers to the motherboard chipset.
It is either an Intel 946PL, or Intel 946GZ motherboard chipset,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Core_2_chipsets

You can see the list of processors it supports. Also look at the Front Side Bus speed it supports (FSB), and note 65nm architecture for the processor.

As for office work, or surfing the internet; more Ram Memory will help.
For editing videos, or intense games though, you need a decent graphics card.

Memory question. What memory am i able to use in this laptop? am i able to use dd3 memory? as an upgrade. if you can help, thanks

Hi pfcdressler.

If you using DDR2 RAM Modules in the Computer now, you may go ahead and use the DDR3 RAM.

All the latest Motherboards support the DDR3 RAM.

If the Computer has a PCI or PCI express slot, you may use the DDR3 RAM.

As you have not provided the exact Model # of the Computer, it would be better if you provide the exact Model #.

You may also check with your favorite Computer retailer to confirm if the Motherboard supports the DDR3 RAM.

However, you may also provide me the exact Model # of the Computer, so that I can provide the exact information.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask further questions.
