Alright, the exact same thing happened to me, and I just could not figure out what the solution was, so I thought what HP could sand for..then it hit me "HeadPhone", you have something plugged into your Headphone input, in my case I accidentally plugged my Portable device into the headphone input..
Hope this helped.

No I don't have anything plugged into my headphone socket, the only thing that's plugged in are my speakers, which go in the back.

I have an LG fb163 everything seems to function but no sound in the speakers

check mute button, source knob/button, speaker selection knob/button while its playing a cd or FM radio. Also if you have connected headphones the speakers would mute. Check the speaker connections. If the speakers are powered you need to connect them to a power source. If all these fail to produce sound consult a technician.

My LG FB163 has just started to turn off about 20 seconds after i turn it on. what do i do to fix this?

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

I have just been given a pair of aiwa speakers sx-fz1800,there is two cables comming out of the back, which one do i use.

One pair goes to bigger speaker (woofer) and other pair for smaller speakers in box, to get full frequency response, you need to hook both cables.
