Monitor screen goes black

I have an HP vs17 flat panel monitor connected to HP Media Center m7060n. The monitor will increase in brightness for a second and then go completely black. It's not going into a standby mode, the power to the monitor is still on, and it still has sound. The screen will not come back on its own. The only way to get the screen to come back on is to shut the power off and then turn it back on. I reloaded the drivers but this didn't help.

Re: Monitor screen goes black

I had the same problem and fought around it for long. if you know a little bit of electronic soldering, open the monitor and on the output side of the power supply, re-solder all the integrated circuit (IC) joints. I did that and now my monitor works fine. The particular IC is the "1505 IC which is a voltage regulator.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

Re: Monitor screen goes black

I am still having the problem with the screen going black on my HP vs17. When I turn it off and on again it comes on for a second or two and winks out again. I found that if I smack it with a sharp blow on the back and turn it on it will stay on for a long time. This is not a fix but it`s better solution than slamming the monitor down on the desk to get it going. amcollector.

Re: Monitor screen goes black

Try booting the computer in safemode you can do this by pressing f8 continuously when the computer is booting until a menu comes up select safemode. If this is unsuccessful then the monitor has a physical issue.

loricaney, Do some research first. Go here: I just read a comment that some guy wrote. He stated that he aquired 30 Vs17 non-working units from a high school, and that 25 of them had bad (swollen or leaky) filter capacitors. The other 5 had cracked lcd panels. maybe $6 in new capacitors will restore unit for you. Do some reading in my fixya profile and "budmrtn" and "buddymc" fixya profiles. let me know if you want to do a DIY repair after you do research and visit YOUTUBE for video clips of owners doing typical capacitor removal and installation. 12fixlouie

Try the monitor on another computer, to check-out the monitor.

Does the POWER lamp on the monitor stay on when the monitor goes black? If so, then the monitor probably is OK.

Try a different monitor, to trouble-shoot the video-card.

HP monitor vs17 goes black with power light flashing

I have repaired an HP 1702 monitor that had similar symptoms by replacing the capacitors on the power supply board but you have to have some electronic knowledge and do some soldering if you can buy the replacement capacitors($10+/-) from a supply store. They (at least 1) will be swollen up on the ends and may have a tar-like substance leaking from them. It is best to replace them all (may be 4 depending on the model).

Screen goes dim under different user

could be an issue of his resolution and refresh rate settings are close to being out of range for the monitor. Try lowering these settings to get better performance.
