Thanks Greenie for your comments.
I took the box apart, cleaned out all of the dust, and to my amazement it started working again.
No real answer as to why, but so far it is still functioning correctly ?
Thanks

In the case of 220Coupe. it seems that although you took great care in replacing the Xclamps, you could have potentially damaged the Motherboard, Breaking the operating lights and the Wireless Chip. i understand that the X Clips on the motherboard for the heat sinks arent amazing and are quite flimsy but there are far easier ways of keeping the Xbox Core temperatures down such as ventilation etc. Unfortunately for you, due to the DIY jobs you have carried out on your Xbox, it is out of warranty. meaning you would potentially have to buy a new Xbox 360.

And unfortunately for u plclaw, it seems you could have an out of the factory Motherboard problem very similar to the problem which 220coupe has created. i have never heared of this problem before leading to the front operation lights and also the Wireless controller chip faulty. i would call The Xbox Customer support for your Country (Numbers found on www.xbox.com/support) and get in touch with microsoft, explain your problem, and see if the customer support has any remedies !

Hopefully this helps guys !
Thanks

Ring of death on my xbox 360 any ideas how i can fix this

yes you need to open your xbox and (unfasten xclamp on underside of motherboard) remove the GPU and CPU units...remove all thermal paste and apply new thermal paste...reasemble GPU and CPU units attach all cables and dvd drive and boot system up...if you have done everything right then your xbox should be as good as new....but if you still have warranty on your system just send it back to microsoft

Xbox 360 console will not show video or audio on hdmi or regular video cables on any tv. console is on and running. before it stopped the picture was distorted.now will noy show anything.how to fix?

xclamp fix,the thermal paste on your heatsinks needs replacing, just done one the same last week,it had no picture but had sound and no light on red ring but sound went off shortly after. You can learn how to do this on youtube, just search xclamp fix and plenty will show, and buy a xclamp kit off ebay, will cost about £2,if console is still under warranty for the first year its covered but if its past the first year the extended 3 year warranty dosnt cover this repair. They will charge £81 for them to fix it.And dont do towel trick it will get it working again but only for a few days and will do more damage to console

I have error code 0021 on my 360, just done the x clamp mod to it but have had no joy

usually the xclamp mod works for more flex in the motherboard but if there is to much flex in it the system things its being bent or something. the xclamps help it to prevent to much flex. i would suggest putting the xclamps back on it theres no real need to take them off.

I have sound but no video..(there is no RROD)

I had a friend with the same problem. No video, just audio, used different cables and such like you did. Ended up being the GPU just as you mentioned. Called in they said it wasn't under warranty.

My friend tried the Xclamp, but it didn't work. He ended up calling MS and found that if you told them you were troubleshooting a Red ring error on the phone with them, and then the video error happened they would grandfather in the replacement because it was a red ring error initially. Might try that.

Scratched Xbox 360 motherboard

Hi,

Usually if a motherboard has been scored or damaged.
( tracks or resistors/capacitors dislodged et,c )
The board is in the Bin. ( scrap ) unless the damage can be repaired. The RROD Or red-ring of death. Is usually due to the x-clamps fitted to the console initially, by the manufacturer.
Replacing the x-clamps, with a kit ( bolts/washers thermal Compound ) And 4 x heatpads recommended. Can cure the RROD. And in my own experience the 1 red light And E74 error.

Bottom line, if the boards scratched. it,s in the Bin.

Xbox 360 samsung m25 game fault

It's Not The dvd drive key otherwise you'd get the three red light lights. It's most probably a bad firmware flash try and reflash it to the original firmware with the same dvd drive key and see if that works.
