Sounds like the unit has either a failing load belt to the cd drawer mechanism, not allowing the transport to fully load the cd. Give the unit a gentle tap just after the drawer closes and see if it resolves the problem.
OR a faulty spindle motor, you will have to take the lid off and after pressing play, give the disc a gentle "kickstart". If it then begins to run, then the motor is the problem.
If you find it is neither of these, get back to me here and I we shall go further

SOURCE: CD player fails to read
This is a typical problem when the laser " eye" gets dust on it, unplug the unit and you can try to remove cover and spray the optical pickup "eye' with canned compressed air or other type of optical cleaner found at say like radio shacks, I have solved many disc reading errors with this method

Well if the unit came with car over 10 years old, u can't clean it might have to just replace. buying a new one will cost as much as trying to fix that one.

The answer isn't with the CD player, it's with the amp.
Does the amp have selectable inputs, or does it just have one input for each channel?
If it's a simple power amp, then you'll have to unplug the CD player and connect your iPod to the amp inputs. I'm guessing that the CD player connects to the amp with RCA (phono) connectors like these ones.
If that's the case, you can get a cable (like this one at Radio Shack, but any office supply store will have one too) to connect your iPod to the amp.

SOURCE: cd will not eject from
My first guess would be that the loading belt is slipping. This will prevent the cd from loading completely and thus won't read. The belt costs around $2-$3. Care must be taken when opening up this unit.
Let me know if you need any additional info.
