Dvd's burned on one machine, can they be finalized on another machind to play

I want to know if I can finalize a dvd on another machine that it was not recorded on. I can't play movie I recorded, on my broken machine, on my new machine. Will I distroy the content if I try to finalize my burned dvd's on a new machine? I'm not sure of the model. Does it matter.

I burned a DVD on a Toshiba recorder but it crapped out before I could finalize it. I tried to copy it on my PC using Nero. It looked as though it was working because it actually copied the contents to a new DVD. However, when I tried to play it, neither that PC nor a stand alone DVD could read it. It's like it copied the un-finalized DVD without finalizing the new copy. Is there something else I can try that way AND is it possible to go buy a new Toshiba recorder and finalize it on that one? It's from a couple of years ago, so I know the newest model will be different. Thanks for any help.

When I burn a DVD (R- or R+) on a Sony RDR-GX300 it burns the DVD which plays on that unit only. If I try to play the DVD burned on Sony RDR-GX300 on any other brand or any other Sony DVD player or even on...

On That Type Of DVD Recorder,( RW,R-R+). You Will Have To Finalize The Disk. Finalizing is Necessary When Playing On Any Equipment Other Than This Recorder.Even IF Your Other DVD Equipment IS ( VR ) Format Compatible You Still Need To Finalize The Disk. After Finalizing,You Cannot Edit or Record on The Disk,Make Sure It's In Video Mode.

I cannot play burned dvd's from this system in other dvd players becahse I cannot finalize the dvd. How do I finalize?

The recording may have used all the media on the disk because you let it run until it was full.
Now, there is no room to finalize the disk.

Play this back on the machine where it was recorded while recording it to another DVD recorder..
This time, BE THERE to stop the recording.
Set the recorder to a speed that leaves at least 10 minutes extra space for finalization.

I am trying to finalize a DVD-R after burning a movie. I can't find "close" or "finalize" anywhere. The DVD-R movie is burned but wont play on my Sony DVD player.

Have you tried "right-click" and clicking on 'eject' to have the DVD finalized? What program are you using to burn the DVD?

It sounds like the recorder will only record the dvd+ format, which does NOT need finalizing to play in other machines. ( you can record a dvd- , play it back on the machine you recorded it on, but need to finalize it to play on other machines)
The other units may only accept dvd-.(dvd- being the same format as you would buy or rent a film on)
One option, record the dvd on a dvd+rw (if possible) then copy to a dvd-r using your computer. The average use of a dvd+ is 1000 recordings.
There are many free disc burning suites available to download. Just google "free disc burning software" and take your pick.
I use 1 called "magix goya base" for copying disc to disc and "NTI" for burning to HDD and then to disc, if you only have use of 1 drive.

I have windows vista the dvd-rw that i burn does not play on dvd players

Not all DVD players will play rewritable DVD disks. Check for compatibility. Also, burned DVD's need to be "finalized" and the region code of the burner must match the player. Check your software docs for steps to finalize and setting your region code. If you are in the U.S. your region code is 1.

Need to finalize the burn , so it can play on the computer.

Well without knowing what your brand of dvd burner you're using, I have an Emersion dvd burner and you go into Setup on the remote control, then go into Edit DVD then there you will have several options, with one of them being Finalize DVD. Hope it helps

Can't view DVD's burned from the tv on a DRC8335 RCA DVD recorder

If you do not finalize the disc then you can not play it back. Go back to your instruction manual and look under 'setting options'. There should be a choice to 'finalize disc before ejecting'. The recorder will not finalize a disc until it knows when you are done recording, so you have to tell it somehow.
