I have removed the battery and still not powering up

I have done all of the above and still no luck, I am now wondering if the CPU is at fault, because I even changed the Ram, remove Optical Drive , Hard Drive and still no go.

The problem is the unit only light up but there is nothing on the screen, I connect an external Monitor to it and still no difference , the unit still do not boot. ( I also try the CD in the unit nothing happens) it just does not boot, it is as if the processor is not working (AMD).

I had the same problem with this make and model. Sometimes the power light pulsed and the fan would run but nothing else worked. Sometime it bootas up and goes to screen saying startup error then it freezes while doing a self scan. I tried booting in safe mode but it again froze up in safe mode. I let it sit over night when i started up the next day it prompted me to back up files and then froze before i could back anything up. I tried all of the battery removal/ plug tricks in every combination. Still only moderate success before it freezes up again. The last thing i did before it froze the first time was watch a dvd movie because our dvd player broke as well. im very frustrated with electronics right now can anyone offer any help?

I also have had this problem. I was working on it and it simply shutdown immediately, without any proper power down sounds. I had a friend that works on computers come and see it and he simply had the plug removed but battery in and it turned on when holding the button in. It seems that there has been a major problem on the power jacks for this model.

Because it allows some power but not all it can mess up the computer if things happen which draw a lot of power, which for me was having a lot of Office programs and about 10 tabs up online, or maybe playing the DVD for the girl above, on top of regular programs running. This is especially likely sense it is not an issue with any of the extra components which you checked. I don't know about you, but I have had problems with the power jack being sticky beforehand, having to wiggle it sometimes to recognize the charge.

Let me know if you found out the problem. I am going to attempt to fix mine in about a week. This youtube video shows basically how to do it and what the problem was on a similar model.

ok..then do the power button, with power off and unplugged. with battery only. if this does not work, then you may need to open and re seat the memory modules.

Leaving your unit in standby mode is not a problem as long as your ac adapter is plugged in to your ac outlet and to your pc. otherwise, you will have a drained battery. try removing your battery for a few minutes and then insert it back in then plug your ac adapter to your wall outlet and to your pc and leave it without starting your pc. notice the small pilot light at front edge of your laptop, it should be yellowish/orange. wait until this light turns green then you can try turning on your pc.

The power button in my Gateway laptop MT6451 got pushed it can't be accessed from the top. How can it be accessed from the button?

Quite easily Sergio

The plastic Power On button you see, presses against a carbon button Power On switch, below it.

I suggest removing the Switch Cover, and then you can access the Power On switch's carbon button, and press it down to turn the laptop on.

You can also, then see about repairing the Power On button assembly, or replace the Switch Cover.

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter {Charger}, and Battery.

2) Laptop closed, laid on it's top; Bottom side up.
Turn it so you are looking down in the Battery Compartment, where the Battery was......

Down in the Battery Compartment are 4 Philips head screws to remove. You need the smaller No.1 Philips screwdriver, or the equivalent Jewelers screwdriver.

Here is the Base Enclosure, (Bottom Cover), not installed on the laptop,

There are 4 views. The page automatically opens, with a Bottom view, and the Battery Compartment at the top.

SET, your mouse cursor in the middle of the photo. This allows the Zoom In feature.
Go to the top where the Battery Compartment is, and view the 4 holes going along the Top.

This shows you where the 4 screws to be removed are.

Same design, different Gateway notebook,

Go to the third photo down. Has two screws circled in Red.
I just want you to look at the Battery Compartment. (Not the red circled screws)

Look under the whitish - -
You can see the first two screws pretty visibly. Almost make out the 3rd one, no to the 4th screw.

Once these 4 screws are removed, turn the laptop over.
Open the laptop.

Now you are going to remove the Switch Cover.

In the above link scroll down to the 5th photo, and 6th photo.

This video also shows you,

From 0:45 to 0:47
Please use care when removing, it is plastic.
The video has been sped up.

This is a look at the Switch Cover removed,

Gateway MT6451 When I press the power button it (the power button) lights up plus all the other lights but unit does not work, but you can hear the fan keep running on and off and the power button light...

Does the light associated with the hard drive flicker, stay on and then fade sometimes? If so - then the hard drive is working and the likely problem is a faulty screen. You can also try the function key plus whatever F key would increase screen brightness. (i.e. Fn + F7 on my machine.)

Need destructive recovery. I need to restore this unit to factory settings. I would like to know if it has a redovery partition.

When you power on the laptop press F11 every few seconds. That's usually to boot to recovery partition. You'll have different format options to destroy data, etc.

Hdd pasword for gateway mt6451

There is no way to get around a hard drive password as the password is not in the BIOS it is stored on the control board for the hard drive itself.

The only option is to send it off the a Data Recovery company.

Gateway MT6451 Does not turn on

Probably the mainboard or flaky power supply.

I'd start by replacing the power supply. Buy one you can use in a new machine, though... or "borrow" one from another machine.

No powerup

Unfortunately, you can't solve this problem. What I have learned as the tech working on a customers gateway mt6451 is that Gateway dropped the ball when they bought a cheap (they spent 5 cents instead of 20 cents) motherboard component that allows the adapter to charge battery and run the notebook without the battery installed, the component seems to have a 1 year if that life. I am surprised they haven't been sued or forced to extend the warranty (like HP had to with their dv8000 series notebooks) althought they would have to replace the motherboard with one that has an improved component on it. How do you sue a company or force them to extend the warranty for a replacement that is made with a better component?

I have seen bad ram or loose ram cause the issue. Re-seat the ram.

Have an MT6451. When I press the power button it will not turn on but the battery indicator light in front of the laptop flashes red every time I press the power button. I should also tell you that it did...

Gateway MT6451 laptop. That was easy but the rest is a guess without more details. It sounds like this computer is not plugged into an outlet or is not getting power from that outlet, and that the battery is dead low. Try plugging something else, like a lamp, into the very same outlet that the laptop is plugged into to make sure it turns on. Not the next plug over on a power strip, but the very same plug. If it doesn't get power either, there's hope. Except that your battery needs a good recharge after the laptop starts getting power.
If the outlet turned out to be good, then the power adapter on your laptop may have failed. At this point you'll need try another power adapter and try again. At this point you may need the help of people who can look at the computer for you, preferably friends with a similiar laptop (and power adapter).
I wish I could help more, but thats a start.
