Maytag top loader won't agitate. will fill and spin

Hello,

Try this:
When the washer should be agitating, try turning your load size switch back and forth a few times. If you are on a medium load, going to a larger load should cause it to begin filling again, going to a smaller size should start the motor for agitate. If this works, your pressure / water level sense switch is okay, but the switch for load size is faulted / or is on its way out. If you went from a medium load, to a higher load, then your pressure switch is faulted as well.

Washing Machine wont recoginze the load amount to fill with water, ex..small, med, it justs keep filling up to the brim??

Sounds like your problem is one of three things. Most common is that you have to "reset" the water level. This is done by turning the water level knob passed the large load size, and then down to small. Any time you want to go to a smaller sized load, you have to do this. Another possibility is that the pressure switch is bad, this is an easy fix (although not as easy as the reset) The switch can be purchased thru a local parts supply house. And the last thing could be a bad water valve. This will leak and continue to fill the washer after it is already full, this however is usually followed with water all over the floor. If it is not the reset, write me back and I'll walk you thru the other repairs. Hope this helps!

Will not go in to spin cycle

Remove agitator (it will pop off when pried) then you will find your answer. Mine was a broken tub collar to shaft.

Just rehook the clear tube back onto the air dome (back right side of drum), drain any water from the drum, the refill, pressure switch will reset itself. Start to fill on small load size first, then move up when washer starts to be sure it reset all the sizes.

Washer will not fill

I had a problem almost like yours. The hose attached to the load size switch had a clog in it, and the washer wouldn't fill with water or spin. Will need to take the front panal off to check the whole line.

Washer stops in the middle of a load

This is a common symptom of a defective lid switch. If you try opening and closing the lid and do not hear a distinctive "clicking" sound, your lid switch may need to be replaced. Some lid switches are located on the right-hand side of the lid opening with a small slot. It is activated by a plastic piece called a “lid strike” on the lid itself. Make sure the lid strike is not broken off. This will keep the switch from not working. On some model washers the lid switch is located on the left-hand side, in the rear, mounted under the casing near the lid hinge. It is activated by a rod on the lid hinge. Sometimes the rod can be adjusted if it is not making good contact with the switch. In either case, if the switch is not activated, it will allow the washer to fill and maybe agitate, but will not start the rinse or drain cycles. If you diagnose it and wish to attempt the repair yourself, the switch costs about $25 and is fairly simple to replace if you follow the steps on the link below:

I hope this helps you. Please post back if you have need further assistance, or require parts.

Wash cycle not working...

Kerbri, it sounds like your pressure switch could be the culprit. Under the top console the switch will be on the left side. There will be a clear tube that runs from the tub to the switch. Take another piece of tubing about the same size in diameter, disconnect the tube to the pressure switch and connect the tube. Blow into the pressure switch and see if the washer starts agitating. If so, replace the pressure switch.. Another thing to check would be the harness to the motor, make sure it is on tight. Good luck
