I'm assuming the key ignition switch has been replaced with a new one. If this didn't correct the problem then the problem could be in the STARTER RELAY stuck in the 'on' position, or in the STARTER SOLENOID switch (located on the starter motor ) stuck in the 'on' position.

The STARTER RELAY should be located around or in a POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX . After locating the STARTER RELAY and gaining access to it, try hooking your charger or jumper cables, whatever way you want to power the battery to make the starter turn over, then while the motor is turning over then pull the STARTER RELAY out and see if that stops it from turning.

If it does then the STARTER RELAY is probably at fault and needs to be relaced. It the motor continues to turn over then the problem is more than likely the STARTER SOLENOID sticking in the 'on' position, and will need to be replaced. That should take care of the starter problem.

Next will be the 'not starting problem'. That could be fuel delivery, spark plugs, coil or ignition control unit. Would be so much more helpful to include date and make of an appliance when seeking help.

I have seen this happen in cars- the problem is most likel the ignition unit -they do not spend a lot of money on them in production. So here is what is happening . When you are putting key in and out metal filings are being deposited inside unit- this is now causing a short and draining batteries. Start here. This happened with cars a few years ago and they were catching fire in driveways.Call dealer and get replacement ignition- should be cheap fix. Good luck.

Why is there gas in crankcase

Hello Ricky, I would check the carburetor needle valve and seat along with the carburetor float. You could get lucky and just need to clean the crud out of the carburetor float bowl.

Took my ev6010 generator out and put it back in but hooked up the starter motor to the ground not to the positive and now it wont start. I also changed the oil and coolant.

On the ev6010 Honda generator the posive starter wire is black and was accidently hooked up to the chassis ground wire. Then the start button was pushed and nothing happened. I corrected the wire hookup to the positive side but will not start still

Generator Won't start

Gap the plug at .030 What is most likely the main problem is whatever gas sat in the carb. Even with fresh gas there will be some old gas still in the float bowl. You may be able to drain the bowl and be OK but I have a feeling that the carb will need to come off and be disassembled and cleaned properly. You can try spraying carb cleaner (I dislike starting fluid as it is too volatile and carb cleaner does just as well in this instance) into the carb/intake. Remove the air filter, open the choke, and spray the carb cleaner in through that way if possible. You can actually keep an engine running by spraying with short bursts. Even by just spraying once you should be able to get the engine to start. If it does start but then will not stay running without spraying more into the engine then it is a carb problem.

Have generac 5243-0 generator. Is not producing power. unit does run, but no power from the gereator leads to the breaker?

Hi there...I have one and I work on them.where r u located?check stator and Rotor. What u can do is ohm it out...shut off gas...turn main 65 amp breaker to off. Take probe from meter and put on neutral post inside generator and place other probe on breaker....the side with wiring FROM generator....if it shows short....I suspect stator is shorted to ground

What size compressor can I run

You would need 10 times the watts it takes to run electric air compressor, the start up takes a lot more amps to get it going ,then it will level off to the amps, what ever they are. That is the problem, getting it to power up,then it is fine,so you are looking at about 8000 watt gen.

Potential Motor damage

Submersable pumps pull a lot of current on start up. Up to 7 times running momentarily. This is especially true of three wire pumps. ( Ground and 2 , 110V) 4 wire pumps have a capacitor start provision ( the extra wire) and a control box that greatly reduces the starting load by shifing the phase on startup.

4200 watts should handle it how ever if you have no line losses. Excess Line losses will do exactly what has happened to you. Overheated the connections and burned up the pump.

First check what gauge wire you have going from the generator to the pump and the length of the run. Check a wire gauge calculator such as http://www.denningelectronics.com/wiregauge.htm
use at least 4 times the running load for your wats and if it is a deep well pump, more than 50 feet of head from water to spickot) then use 7 times wattage. Use 5% line loss allowable,. This will probably uncover your problem as under size wire.

The other possibility is that the breaker was going bad over time and caused the voltage drop0 that destroyed the pump.

Last item you can do, check the voltage at the generator when the pump starts, it shold not drop more than 10% on start up.

Good luck
