My vcr turns on for a few seconds then turns off right after that. It wont take in tapes, and when it does it says that there is no tape in the vcr.

GuruThe mechanism on this vcr is out of alighnment. its probably a defective mode switch assy or a gear or cam has broken . This is not worth the trouble, time, or money to send into a repair shop. Time to get a new one . Good Luck
