Question about Televison & Video
I have an IR-to-UHF Pro Upgrade Kit on a Dish Network System. My VCR has been used very little (is like new). I want to go through some old cassettes, but can't get it to show sign of power. I'm told by Dish tech that the connection is right and I need to go to my manual, but unfortunately it has been lost. I put a tape in but it did not go down and of course w/o power will not eject.

There's a fuse inside the VCR close to where the power cord enters. Check that first.

SOURCE: Dish network
With the dish remote and do a code search as described in the remote manual and see if you can find it that way. If you go through the entire code search and none of them turn off the VCR/DVD combo, then there is nothing you can do, as those codes in the remote are all stored in the remote and they cannot be programed in. If you do not have a remote manual to set up the remote, to do a code search, simply go to the dishnetwork web site and search for it.

It sounds as though it's jammed. If you're mechanically inclined you can unplug the unit, take the cover off, and manually eject it. Just look for the motor that drives the load basket and manually spin the shaft. The guide-posts should retract towards the tape and the basket will then lift and eject. Just be aware that whatever bit of tape that's out of the cassette won't spool back in. You will have to do that bu hand once it's out.
When you're done, plug it back in and let it cycle then put an old cheap tape in and see if it works. If not, take it in for repair.

SOURCE: Power shuts off
The problem is the reel sensor or associated cricuitry. I am an electronic tech and could not figure out what was wrong. I replaced sensor and sensor emitter with no change. It was not the micro. I finally gave up and told the customer I could not repair unit. No schematic or parts available from Philips/Magnavox

you need to clean the vcr with a cleaner that you can buy at a store. If that doesnt work then you need to take the 4 or 5 skrews out that hold the top on and look at the motor and gears move while you put a tape in and you should spot the problem pretty quick. It'll be with the round metal wheel that turns the tape.
