Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC21 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Sony handycam dcr-hc53

Please help.

I've been following all the instructions and yet no luck. I'm trying to connect the camera to my laptop. I only have the cables that sony gives with the camera and I assume they're the right ones. It's a mini dv tape that my videos are on, but i'm also supposed to be able to do usb streaming but it's not working. When i connect the camera and turn the usb streaming on, with it plugged into the computer the computer makes the noise of a usb device connecting, and tells me new hardware is found etc.. but when i go to say 'my computer' and look for it there it's not there.. and the software that i received with the camera doesn't recognise the camera as being connected or anything.. and i don't know what to do or how to get my videos onto my computer for editing.

Please help!!!

Thank you!

I have the exactly same issue what erinklaffin has.
The one answer can be to use the 'iLINK' port, but according to me its unfair on consumer to have to buy something which is not included and necessary for such a basic thing as transferring the video.
Please can someone instruct me on how to use the available resources to transfer the video ?

I think you are using Windows Vista and facing problem to connect Sony DCR-HC53
Download Update for Picture Motion Browser software at Sony Support.
You need iLINK cable to transfer movie data in to computer. iLINK cable is shown in below picture.
You can have more info HERE about iLINK connectivity if you are running Windows XP in your laptop.

Because of the fact that Microsoft thinks they're so smart and released Windows Vista as their newest piece of ****, this camera will not work with Vista. The drivers for Windows Vista are non-existent. I went to the site for Sony and could only find XP drivers and 98 and 2000. They do not make them for Vista. And of course Vista should have most common drivers preinstalled, yet they don't have this one. I haven't found a way around it yet. I tried to get the drivers for Windows XP and install them. No good! It cannot be used on "this current operating system." Good luck. Hope somebody else finds an answer.

If you are able to see picture in the viewfinder (eyepiece) on closing the LCD, then the cable connecting the LCD to rest of the camera has gone bad and needs replacement. Take it to a Sony service centre. They will charge Rs 750 for service charges and about Rs 700 for the cable. You can save the service charges if you replace it yourself, but I'll advise against it unless you are conversant with these sort of precision jobs.

I have A Sony DCR-HC53 handycam, the tape wil not eject, how con I fix this?

This can be caused by several problems including a defective eject switch in the cameras internal circuitry or a bad motor. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can usually be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

You need "Picture Package" software supplied with Sony camera to transfer video files in to PC. If you have software CD, please install it and connect your camrea with USB port.
If you dont have CD, check following Sony official weblink to download USB Driver, though it will not give you proper control on file transfer procedure yet it do help you to connect camera with PC.
