What are the jumper settings for a 1.5 tb wd SATA drive?

The pins on a SATA drive are for other purposes. If you just install it the computer will find it and assign a drive letter.

there are no drivers required for a hard drive.
Windows 7 should automatically detect the new hard drive and it should show up in disk management to format or prompt you to format.
Check your cable connections again.
Otherwise your new hard drive may be DOA. Return it to the store that you purchased from.

Hello,

Unplugging the CDROM didn't cause this issue but installing the western digital on that cable did cause your drive numbers to change in BIOS. You need to disconnect the external hard drive from the SATA cable but leave the power connected, then boot windows. Once booted reconnect the SATA cable. Check and see if it shows up in your disk management utility.

To do this, right click on computer, then left click manage. When the management console opens, click Disk Management on the left side and scroll down through your drives. Let me know if it shows up and what it says about the partition on the right, I'll keep my eyes open for your reply.

WD Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 not recognized at install

Windows XP does not have built in SATA drivers. You will need to download the XP drivers from Western Digital's website and install before the computer will allow you to format and use your new drive. Hope this helps.

Installing new sata drive in HP pc

a clean xp installation does not recognize sata drives at all. you can either use nlite to build a custom install cd, press f6 during setup to load additional drivers, try to change your sata mode from native to compatible in your bios or use your restore cds.
