Question about Brother DCP-7020 All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Back Door Open on Brother DCP-7020 printer

Display indicates that the back door is opened. I open and close the back door but the message never goes away. I have checked for pieces of paper that maybe jammed but I can not find any. I have looked for a mechanical switch, etc., but cannot locate one if there is one. I have removed the drum and toner cartridge but that did not help.

Can someone please suggest what else I can look for? This is driving me nuts. I tried to find a service and repair manual for this printer but I haven't been lucky.

I opened the back panel and yanked out the piece of paper that was apparently halfway through the machine. Message dissapeared, printer warmed up and I could print again. This would appear to be a poorly designed error messaging system that wasn't properly tested.

My Brother DCP 7020 won't stop flashing close back door

There's a micro-switch that "trips" when the door is opened/closed. It's not sending a "closed" signal to the printer. Clean the switch, with a blast of compressed air. Check that a small "finger" is going-in to the slot, to "trip" the sensor, as the door is closing.

Back Door is open. Printer will not work. Keep

The black flap inside the rear door has a sensor flag mounted on it. The flag goes thru a hole on the side. If the spring is missing or broken or the flag is missing or broken, the error will persist.

Brother DCP 7020 display reads "Drum Error" and instructs me to clean corona wire which I did. I then bought a new drum and still get the same message.

You need to reset after a new drum, open the front door and press menu or options and it will ask if it's a new drum. after that if you still have the error, you may need a new power supply PCB.

Back door open alert

Twist the printer so that you can see the back of the printer.
Near the bottom, there is a door that swings down.
Swing it down and it will open (get familiar with it). Then close it. There is a magnetic catch.

Reset Drum

Take it out and put it back in - the trick is to LEAVE THE FRONT DOOR OPEN after you put it back in. With the door still OPEN push the "options" button and you will be prompted for "New Drum?" and then push the "Up" button for 'Yes' and "Accepted" will appear on the lcd screen - and then the drum counter will be reset. The directions in the book work great - but you have to be careful make sure the door is still open when you push the "options" button...
