MS installer invariably asks for a product KEY 25 (approx) alphanumeric characters in groups of 5, on a sticker on the cd/dvd case, not the product number
If you are using the product number it will fail, if you have thrown away the sticker for your valid product contact MS, and verify the purchase and they will assist you to register your product.
If you cannot verify proof of purchase, it might be harder.
If the MS program you are installing is a demo version its time limited period may be expired
MS are pretty good about it actually,

Error 25090.office setup encountered a problem with the office source engine. system error..-2147024894. please open C..\program files\microsoft office\OFFICE

To fix it, put in your Office 2003 or Office 2007 CD into your drive and wait for the setup program to start. If it doesn't start automatically, find the Setup.exe file on the CD and run it manually. Once the setup window appears, just click Cancel. Click OK to whatever prompts come up after you click Cancel.
That's it! Loading the setup screen fixes the corrupt setup files and allows you to open an Office program without the 25090 error!

HOW CAN FIX INVALID ELECTRONIC SERIAL NUMBER

In otherwords you are seeing the Activation screen?
No problem!

Primer:
When Windows is installed on a computer, is assigns hash values to certain major hardware components.

Examples such as;
1 Processor
2) Ram Memory

3) Motherboard, (To be more specific; Motherboard chipset, and BIOS program, and version)

4) Harddrive
5) Graphics chipset

Change any two of these hardware components, and Windows will 'think' it is being stolen.

(Windows: "Hey, this isn't the same computer I was put on originally!")

[Microsoft user's license states One GENUINE copy of Windows per ONE computer.

Microsoft makes one Master disk of the Operating System. From it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold ]

Primer over.

When the activation screen comes up, click on - Call Microsoft
I feel it is better to speak to a real person in case there are problems.

Before calling, have the Serial Number of the computer written down, to give to the nice representative on the phone.

This is in a white Service Tag, on the back of the computer, or up on the side of the computer tower.
S/N = Serial Number

After you click on Call Microsoft, the screen in front of you will have a series of blocks.

The top blocks (6) have number/letters in them.
The bottom (6) blocks do not.

The representative will ask you what you wish to do.

ACTIVATE

You then read off the number/letters in the first box, to the representative. Speak CLEARLY, and make sure the representative understands each letter/number.

Go to the second box. Do the same. Do this for all of the boxes.

When finished the representative will state to wait one minute.
(More like; Hold On)

The rep will come back, and state letter/numbers to you.
Put your mouse cursor in the first empty box. Left-click once.

Type the letter/numbers you are given.
Make SURE you understand the representative! IF NOT, ask the rep politely to repeat.

After you have filled the first box, the cursor will automatically jump over to the second box.
Type the letter/numbers in.

Same thing for the 3rd through 6th box.

When finished go back through all the boxes, and repeat back to the rep the letter/numbers. Make SURE they are CORRECT!

When you are finished with the last box, there is a period of silence.
You are supposed to know that you have to click on ACTIVATE, at the bottom.

Click on Activate.

That's it! Say goodbye to the nice representative. Your genuine copy of Windows is now Activated again!

{By the way. You have a new Windows Product key now.
The one in the holographic sticker on the computer is no good now }

How to install microsoft office

Insert the installation CD and wait for the setup wizard to load. After you insert the installation CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive, a dialog box will appear prompting you to begin installation. If this dialog box does not appear, double-click your CD drive and explore the contents of the CD. Double-click the file called "setup.exe" to start installation.
Select an installation type. In the setup wizard, click the "Next" button until the dialog box asks you to select an installation type. You must select either "Minimum," "Typical" or "Advanced" installation. Although the "Typical" installation is recommended, you can select "Minimum" if you wish to use as little hard disk space as possible to install Microsoft Office XP. Selecting "Advanced" will require you to select individual components you wish to install. Do not choose this installation type if you are unfamiliar with these components.
Finish the setup wizard and restart your computer. Click "Next" and wait for the progress bar to indicate that the installation was successful. Click "Finish" to close the dialog box and finish installation. When the dialog box closes, restart your computer

You will have to phone Microsoft - sorry it's annoying I know. There is a phone number to call once the activation fails for the fist time.
It shouldn't take you long, and I don't expect you will have any issues activating Windows over the phone.
Cheers!

How do you download the game onto the computer?

You insert a disc. An Autoplay Screen comes up. Run the setup when prompted. Follow the on screen directions to install the program once you press install on the autorun menu.

Also , many products include inserts on how to install a program. These are usually referred to as quickstart directions. They are designed to give a no frills list of how to install the games.

Hello, the product key in the bottom of the laptop is for windows, the product key the program is asking is somewhere else, possibly on top of the cd or on the cd cover or in a manual.

you have to ask your dealer about it if you can't find it.

again the one in bottom of the laptop is for windows xp or vista which ever your laptop uses.

I have just received my new gateway computer, and it's asking me for a product key when I use microsoft office. I cann't locate number anywhere. Please help me.

Normally the product key for MS office will be on a sticker on its manual (with a bundled PC). It can also be on a sticker on the PC. Sometimes Mfg's place the sticker on the plastic wrapper that wraps manuals & other pamphlets. Somewhere in the documents you received you will find the key. You can always call Gateway. Most PC's come with a one year warranty.

All original buys come with the installation CD's of Microsoft Office as well as the OS, check the cover of that CD. If you are unable to find it you can contact gateway and let them know the S/N of your computer and they might help you.
You are trying to put in the OS numbers into the office installation this will not work. You need Microsoft Office keys, please refer to the place you bought it.
Thanks
