Toshiba not getting power

My toshiba laptop is not getting any power. It was running fine the night before and then shutdown due to low battery. I tried the a/c adapter and it does not work. The LED light on the laptop that indicates the a/c adapter is plugged in does not come on. When I try to turn the laptop on the on/off button lights up for a second and then shuts off.

I know its not the battery because the on/off light comes on for a second and then shuts off. The thing is that when i plug the a/c adapter the light on the laptop that shows the adapter is connected is not lighting up.

You may have completely drained your battery which it will need a full recharge before it will work again.

O do you have another adapter to see if the problem is the labtop or the old adapter?

No that probably won't work at all and you'd end up frying your mobo.

Hello.

From your description, your A/C adapter (power charger) is faulty and needs to be replaced. Look online or at a local shop for a replacement. Targus manufactures a good A/C adapter. Check to see what adapter works with your laptop.

Hope this helps.

I just purchased a toshiba mini notebook NB 505 it has about 5 hrs. of time on it. Went to turn it on the other night and when it starts up the screen was lite up but nothing else. I can not shut down...

It happens when the NB was not properly shutdown, NB was turned off due to battery drained and left idle or worst there is a problem with the mother board. You may try this; Turn OFF the laptop, remove the power sources (ac adapter and battery). Without power sources, hold power button 10 secs. Put back the power sources, and power ON the NB. If the laptop will not boot by doing this, take it back from the reseller for replacement.

My laptop wont start up... There is power going to the machine but it wont boot up... Model is: Toshiba Compaq -#cq60-410sa? Can you help?

Hello,

One of the possibilities, that the NB does not power ON is due to improper turning off of the laptop or if it was left idle and was not shutdown and just left connected to the ac adapter. Here is one of the simple troubleshooting step you may try. Turn OFF the laptop, remove the power sources (ac adapter and battery). Without power sources, hold power button 10 secs. Put back the power sources, and power ON the NB. If the laptop will not boot by doing this, take it to the nearest repair center to have it check for possible motherboard issue.

Hope this works.

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6970 PC Notebook shut down often. Does anyone know why ? and how can I fix it ?

Is this using battery power or the wall charger?
If on battery power could be battery not holding charge... replace it
Make sure the machine will run on the power adapter without the battery in or it could be the adapter.
If it runs with or without the adapter and the battery is good it could be overheating and going through "Thermal shutdown"
This will be noticable by excessive heat and once it cools down you will be able to restart it.

Thermal shutdown can be cause by a bad fan or dust blocking the vents.
A can of "canned air" can be purchased for less then $10 and you can try blowing out all the vents.
However if the fan is bad it will need to be replaced

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S6816 series laptop. I fell asleep watching a DVD one night - when I woke up the next morning everything was dead. I took it to a store where they said that all power...

Please confirm if the laptop was running with or without the battery adapter when you were playing the DVD.

Take the battery out from the laptop and start with the battery adapter connected and see if you see any activity.

Laptops don't die like that.

MY COMPUTER SHUTDOWN WHILE IT HAS A 60%REMAINING BATTERY. UNEXPECTED SHUTDOWN. MY LAPTOP CANT RESUME THE PROGRAMS RUNNING AND UNSAVED DOCUMENTS AFTER THE UNEXPECTED SHUTDOWN HAPPENS ..WHY MY OTHER LAPTOP...

If the Computer restarts randomly, then the issue might be due to any damaged Operating System Files.
But, if the Computer shuts down randomly, it is due to the Processor.
All the Processors will be designed in such a way that, if there is any overheating issues, the Computer will shut down randomly.
The overheating might occur due to the malfunction of the Cooling Fan in the Computer.
As this is a overheating issue, it would be better to get the Unit examined at the Service Center.
Replacing the Cooling Fan in the Computer should resolve the issue.

I dont seem to get power to my laptop I left it on charge all night last night MAybe I wasnt supposed to do that. What do you think do I need a new battery or what?

Several possibilities:

Connector not seated.

Connector bad on adapter or motherboard.

Charging circuit on motherboard bad.

Adapter bad.

Battery bad.

If the unit runs when adapter is connected, then battery is probably bad. This can occur if you run the battery down too far.

If the unit will not run with the adapter/charger connected then check for the connector problems and other problems.

Keeps loosing battery/power

If it will not work on AC Adapter without battery in it, then you have a bad AC Adapter and the battery is fine. You don't have to get an expensive AC adapter from the original manufacturer. Just look on the bottom of the AC adapter and write down the Volts and Wattage. You can get another at a place like Lowe's or Home Depot. But you must make sure that the Voltage matches exactly, to much voltage and it will fry your computer, to little voltage and it will not run your computer.

Toshiba laptop not getting power

To g_mart

Its sounds like either your power cord is fried, or you need to replace the power jack in your laptop. Unfortunatly, this is a common problem for toshiba's.

If the power adapter no longer works it's time for a new one. Try brighton on ebay. They have great adapters with warrenty. I use them myself.
