Question about Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

4 Answers

Poor Suction Heya! So I just picked up a used Dyson, but when I vacuum with it, the suction is pretty weak and it spits all kinds of stuff out the back and into my feet. When I pull the hose I have good suction, but in regular mode it hardly picks up anything. The brushes are spinning, and it eventually will clean an area if I go over it again and again. Maybe a clog somewhere? Please tell me that Dysons have better suction than my $50 Dirt Devil! Thanks!

I have the exact problem with mine, the hose works great, but the reg sweeper does not pick up very well unless I go over it a bunch

Despite switching to the carpet setting and confirming that the brush is spinning the suction is still pretty poor. Having had the vacuum for 2 years, the quality of suction has significantly declined, all hoses are clear...

I recently bought a second hand Dyson DC07. Its suction was poor. I removed all the un-clipable pipe bits and to remove any blockage but it all looked clear. The Final Sponge and hepper filter did have a lot of dust in it and the rotating brush was full of hair but nothing bad.

I eventual gave in to curiosity and removed the three screws in the top or the yellow removable dust collection tube and cyclone bit to see what was in there. The mechanism to release the flap at the bottom of the collection tube does not allow you to remove the lid completely but it does open far enough to get inside. I found the whole top section of the yellow plastic bit blocked by a big plug of compacted dust and a champagne cork. If you are willing to take the risk and have a torx 15 screwdriver handy it that part may be blocked. It did get a bit messy.

If I was going to attempt the same procedure I'd remove the dust collection unit from the vacuum cleaner as I did before, but leave the clear tube attached and the emptying flap firmly closed to reduce the mess from the dust falling out the bottom while cleaning the top part.

I had a rethink about leaving the clear plastic cylinder on when trying this repair. If the emptying flap is latched in position before removing the top you won’t be able to open the flap until the unit is assembled again. You may need to get in the bottom of the unit to get the release pushrod to locate in its guide at the bottom of the assembly. I recommend removing the clear plastic cylinder and flap and dealing with the dusty mess made during the repair when your finished.

Our 7 year old Dyson is not picking anything up even after I changed the filter.

The usual: take it apart (the easily removed items, dustbin, etc) looks for blockages in the suction path (there are several bends where stuff tends to get stuck. Clever Dyson engineers usually make these sticky spots easy to get to for clearing.

Otherwise, have you ever cleaned the cyclone head? Dyson's (and all centrifugal vacuums) are susceptible to dust clogs because of damp dirt or high humidity. This often build up in the head, unseen, to the point where there isn't enough air flow to maintain suction, regardless of any advertising campaign. Check youtube for videos on "cleaning Dyson vacuums". Some of them are pretty funny.

If none of that helps it might be time to replace the motor (or upgrade) depending on your preferences. Most parts for Dysons are available either direct from Dyson or online through various outlets.

Why is my dyson dc25 spitting hair back out?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If any debris is coming back out of your DC25's cleaner head, it's very likely that you have a blockage in the cleaner head or the airway it's connected to. To check the cleaner head itself, please follow the steps shown in the video below:

To check for blockages in the airway and throughout the rest of the vacuum, please follow the simple checks shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc25/dc25-irsvsye/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

This should definitely help, but if you'd like any further advice from our experts, you can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi there,

Sorry to hear your DC28 Animal is not picking up. To check everything is correct with your machine, please ensure the filters are clean, and the cleaner is free of blockages. This guide from the Support section of our website shows the easiest way to do this:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1456&product=DC28-ANIMAL

Please note the motor exhaust, where filtered air is returned to the room, is located beneath the clear bin. Exhaust air will never come out of the top of the handle.

If you've checked the machine for obstructions and are still having problems with the performance, please get in touch with us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email askdysonUS@dyson.com , so we can provide further assistance.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If you're concerned that dirt seems to be coming back out of the cleaner, you might find it helpful to check that the soleplate is undamaged and correctly fitted, and that there are no blockages in the cleaner head. It's also a good idea to make sure the brushbar is free of any threads, pet hair or debris.

For information on how to remove the soleplate and perform these checks, take a look at our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

Under normal use, the filter in your cleaner should be washed at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without detergent, and allow up to 24 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it. For guidance on doing this, please see the video linked below:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1463&product=DC17-ANIMAL

Following these steps should enable you to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and feel you'd like to speak to someone in person, you can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

Weak suction on dyson dc05. The suction is not as good as usual

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Try washing your pre filter and checking the machine through for a blockage. These are the most likely causes.

A full blockage procedure and filter washing instructions can be found at www.dyson.co.uk/support.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards
