Question about Singer Sewing Machines
My husband gave me a Singer Athena 2009 that needs a little bit of work (he got an amazing deal on it new-ish in the box). I think it needs to be re-timed, but can't find directions anywhere on how to do it. I have removed the plate, the bobbin, and the black bobbin holder. Everything moves as it should, but when the needle gets to the bottom of it's path it hits the edge of the white plastic piece in the very bottom of the bobbin case. Any help or tips would be appreciated! I will take it in if necessary, but I would love to learn how to do this myself.
Here's something to check
is the needle inserted all the way in to the needle holder?
needle--flat side goes to the back of the machine
is the needle clamp screw tight or loose?
if the needle is correctly in the needle holder & the needle clamp screw is tight --then the needle bar is out of time & need to be serviced
IF YOU DO HAVE TO TAKE IT TO BE SERVICED AFTER YOU GET IT HOME STOP RIGHT THEN & SEW ON THE MACHINE TO MAKE SURE THEY FIXED THE MACHINE & IT SEWS LIKE IT SUPPOSE TO, I HAD ONE CUSTOMER THAT TOOK THEIR MACHINE TO A SHOP & THEY CLEANED IT AGAIN & DIDN'T FIX IT BUT CHARGED THEM FOR IT & THEY BROUGHT IT TO ME TO FIX & IT HAD TO BE RETIME
did you get a instruction manual for the machine if not check at singer
Go to the singer website
Click on customer support--there will be a drop down menu
Choose instruction manual
In the box type the model number---2009
Click search--if you don't see a manual--contact singer customer service

slide open metal plate, there is a little white finger button with a target symbol on it just to the left. Slide this all the way left, leaving plate OPEN. If your top needle is threaded correctly, you should now be able to push the foot pedal to sew adn the bobbin will refill. make sure not to go past the outer white line on the bobbin case. good luck. the target button will go back to the original position when you slide the plate closed.

SOURCE: my singer athena 2000 won't
I think if you watch the hook as you turn the wheel you will see that it is not moving. If it's not moving it can't pick up the thread or sew or wind the bobbin. If you really like this machine you can take it to a technician who is going to tell you you have a broken gear.Always have them replaced in pairs. On this machine there are 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the left and 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the right. If the machine is making buzzing noises, replace the machine instead of the gears. Singer makes a nice machine which sells for around $300 which will do more than the one you have and it is easier to use. Look at Model 7467. I sell quite a few of these and they don't give me or my customers problems.
