Same exact problem: All buttons work, except the touch pad. How do you find a new touch pad and replace it?

same problem: touchpad doesn't work. everything else works but since i can only play the one cd i'm stuck on, i really want this fixed!

  • dfocarel Nov 16, 2008

I have the same problem. The strange thing is that I opened the Zen Touch and the touchpad worked for a while and then blocked again. It is possibly a problem of contacts but I don't have any idea on how to solve the problem definitively.

Hold the Zen in your hand, and with your thumb, press down on the face board as hard as you can. Use your other hand's finger to scroll up or down on the touch pad. Press down different areas of the face board until you find a spot that, when pressed, causes the touch pad to work. Then, using both of your thumbs, press that spot VERY hard until the touch pad works without pressing.

Click Start/Control Panel and look for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sure you don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on the button that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad by tapping twice in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key to hit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents the touchpad.

Download and reinstall the touch pad drivers.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "HP Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

How to Fix Touchpad on a Laptop

<p><span>The touchpad of your laptop is a most important and frequently used input device. If your touchpad stops functioning, it may be difficult for you to use your laptop. Touchpad normally faces following issues. <br /><br /><b>Laptop Problems and Their Solutions</b><br /><br /><b>Problems with the driver</b><br /><br />Computer hardware communicates with your computer through real time software called driver. Drivers control computer hardware. It is possible that virus or human activity may damage the driver. You can check your driver's status through computer's device manager. You'll see a yellow color indication under "Mouse and other pointing devices" heading. You can download new driver form your laptop's manufacturer website. <br /><br /><b>Problems with connection</b><br /><br />Touchpad's connection with motherboard is delicate. It can be broken due to heating and other inner problems. So, if there is no problem with the driver, then the connection of the touchpad to the motherboard may have broken. <br /><br /><b>Misuse</b><br /><br />Touchpad of the laptop is the most delicate input device. Some people tap on it too hard or use a shrill tool as an alternative of a finger. It came with an operating system that you don't need to re-install it. Laptop keyboard comes with many functions than the common keyboard. It has Fn keys which are called function keys. Sometimes, your laptop's touchpad stops working because you accidentally hit some one of the Fn keys. You can follow these instructions to make your laptop touchpad working again. <br /><br />1- Search for Fn key on your laptop keyboard. It is commonly located next to the Ctrl key. <br />2- Now search for F1 to F12 keys on the laptop keyboard. Look for the key which has icon on it that looks similar to the touchpad. <br />3- Let's take an example of Toshiba laptop. It uses F10 key to enable or disable touch-pad. Hold down Fn key along with F10 key to enable the laptop touch-pad. <br /><br /><b>Cleaning the laptop touch-pad</b><br /><br />It is a good practice to clean your laptop touchpad. Acer aspire 5735 touchpad not working properly doesn't zoom

You can try updating the software for the touch pad but the most likely problem is you have a bad touch pad. Touch pads don't necessarily go all at once. You lose some functionality. In your case, it would appear you are able to to point and move the cursor. You didn't mention, does the touchpad respond when you tap it to hit ENTER instead of hitting the ENTER key itself. This is 1 area that will commonly lose function over time as well.

Hi ,i purchased my dell inspiron laptop recently.2 days onwards, touch pad is not working.could you please help me?

My dear friend this will usually be a problem with the function keys, you might have de-activated the touch pad. Try to check in the function keys and you may find a key with marking of touch pad usually it would be F4 so to activate it you need to Hold Fn+F4 key and try. It will sure work well and this is not a problem with the machine.

I have an Acer Aspire 5517. Just the other day, my touchpad and keyboard stopped working. What do I do?

1 . Look for Fn function key - Most laptops have this special key Fn that is next to the Ctrl key on the keyboard. It should have a blue or green color, easy to find.

2 . Look for F1 to F12 functions keys, they are on the top row of the keypad. Look for one has an icon that looks like the touch pad, which is to control the touch pad of your laptop. It maybe F8 or F9 depends on each make of your laptop. These function keys also control the brightness, sound, wireless etc.

3 . Now hold down the Fn key and the F10 key to enable the touch pad, in this example, the Toshiba laptops. You press them again to disable it

4 . If none of the above works, plug in an USB mouse, then check into the Control Panel -> touch pad or mouse configurations. Also, check Device Manager if the touch pad driver is installed and working properly.

Thanks.Have a great day.

Dear Sirs, I have been using Toshiba Satellite M326 for about one year. Suddenly, the touch pad no longer working and now I need to use an external mouse. I am not sure whether it is due to the fault...

If you accidentally turned it off it would be one of the function keys. The one for the touchpad would have a small picture of a touchpad on it and a touchpad with a diagonal line through it. Possibly F9. You have to press and hold the Fn key and press the key with the small picture of a touchpad on it together. If that doesn't work then you might have a problem with the touchpad or the software for it.

Touch pad does not work

If it stopped working after you dropped it, try this:

Hold the Zen in your hand, and with your thumb, press down on the face board as hard as you can. Use your other hand's finger to scroll up or down on the touch pad. Press down different areas of the face board until you find a spot that, when pressed, causes the touch pad to work. Then, using both of your thumbs, press that spot VERY hard until the touch pad works without pressing.

Touch pad issues

Next time you try scrolling on the touch pad, also push down (really) hard on the touch pad(kind of like you're squeezing the player). Keep doing this, and you may get it working. I've dropped mine a few times, and this push/squeeze/scroll seemed to work.
