Tappan Range Model TGF657BFWS

On the digital panel, it show "F1". The panel buzzes, and holding down the cancel key doesn't clear the display. The top range lights with a match, and the oven won't light at all. What could be the problem and how to repair?

Re: Tappan Range Model TGF657BFWS

Delo, I am not finding that model number, what I have that is close is the model number tgf657bfw5, if this is your model number the F1 code is a bad electronic control, part number 318010300. If this is not your model number, just ignore this back

To my understanding error code F1 would indicate a faulty control board, possibly thermistor control. The only recourse is to have this replaced.

This of course would require a fair familiarity of electrical/electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and possibly a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

The EOC electronic oven control/clock has failed. This is easy to replace. Go to and enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations. All parts come with installation instructions.

I have a tappan range that keeps getting F1/F3 in on the display panel.

How to test many brands of Ranges that are flashing a F1 fault code: You have either a bad ERC (clock) or a bad touch pad.
  1. Disconnect power to stove
  2. Gain access to the back of the clock (electronic range control or ERC).
  3. Unplug the touch pad ribbon connector from the ERC. This will be a flat wire approx. 1 1/2" to 2" wide.
  4. Make sure everything is clear and will not short out when power is turned back on.
  5. Turn power back on to stove.
  6. Watch for the F1 and listen for the beep.
  7. If you get the F1 and beep, replace the ERC.
  8. If after approx. 30 minutes you do NOT get the F1 and hear the beep, replace the touch pad.
NOTE: Some models incorporate the touch pad and the clock as one part. * We have seen a few of the newer Maytag ranges with a F1 fault code and the problem was the oven temp sensor, check carefully the wires to and from the oven temp sensor!!

Kenmore oven control beeps and shows F1

According to Kenmore's list of error codes, F1 means EOC (Electronic Oven Control) failure, and the solution is to replace the EOC. You might look into that. The part itself costs around $80, as far as I can see.
