Washer will not spin

When the machine is empty it runs through all cycles just fine, including the spin cycles. when I place a load of clothes in the basket the washer starts its spin cycles as normal then abruptly brakes to a stop as if I had lifted the lid (I checked the lid switch and it appears to work ok). If I leave the machine alone, it will repeatedly attempt to restart the spin cycle and it starts and then stops again just as the basket reaches top speed. it will attempt this two or three times until the times shuts it down.

Re: washer will not spin

Could be a bad clutch or transmission. I would either call a tech or get a new washer (these newer GE models don't seem to be very reliable, go for a Whirlpool/Kenmore model next time). Here are breakdown diagrams for your washer: Hope this helps, APP Tech

Whirlpool Calypso Washer Mdl#30942 gets stuck during rinse cycle. Machine runs, then stops, but does not rinse completely. Last 35-38 min cycle is problematic. What is wrong and how to fix it?

It's hard to tell by your description of the problem, but it sounds like it could be the timer If it's not running while in spin mode, or as simple as a belt if it's running and not spinning fast enough.

Drum is loose during Spin and Rinse cycle and banging against side of washer

If it is under warranty, call Whirlpool at 1-866-698-2538. If it is out of warranty, try running the washer with no clothes in it in spin cycle. If it runs fine empty, it may be that when you had clothes in it they were not balanced evenly in the tub. If it runs off balance when empty, then a spring may have broken or come off. Contact an appliance repairman.

The washer is not spinning well...Clothes are partly wet when cycle is completely used also to leak at one time where we can see some water when the cycle is complete...

Hello, when the clothes are partly wet when cycle is complete then check these.
1. Motor coupler
2. Spin cycle

MOTOR COUPLER; To test the motor coupler, restart the washer in it's spin cycle, let the machine runs for a minutes and then open the lid and notice if the tub is spinning: if it's spinning when you lift the lid that means the coupler is fine and if it doesn't spin that means you have to replace it.
SPIN CYCLE: If the washer doesn't reach it's proper spin speed, the cloth may be wet at the end of the cycle, check to be if the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again,if the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt which you have to replace.

Does washer drain before the spin cycle starts?

Normally yes. There are around 12 to 20 gallons of water in the tub after the wash cycle, which will be anywhere from 63 to 110 pounds of weight in addition to the weight of the clothes. For the machine to start the spin cycle to remove this water would place a heavy load on the motor, gearcase, pullys, belts, gears, ect. With the water drained, the load is lighter, and much easier to start spinning the excess water out of the clothes. The normal cycles are: Fill, Agitate, Drain, Spin, Rinse Fill, Agitate for rinse, Drain, Spin Cycle and off. Imagine trying to spin a 5 gallon bucket of water over your head, full of water, and then empty. Which one do you think would be easier to do? And safer for you.

Rattling noise during spin cycle

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Wash.machine won't spin

Door lock switch # 131763245 if everything else is working fine this should fix the problem. It shorts out between the motor control board and the door lock from emptying the cycle and spinning. Try running your machine on drain/spin and see if it drains and tosses clothes and then stops with no spin. If that happens then it is your door lock.switch. Easy to replace by yourself and costs $65.00

Can't get washer to finish spin cycle

I'm not familiar with this washer, but if there is water in the drum when it comes to the spin cycle chances are that it won't spin. The likely cause of water left in the drum would be that it is not emptying fast enough, so you might check the pump for a blockage, or if there is a filter check that for some obstruction like fluff, coins, or small items of clothing which can sometimes get drawn through from the drum. Tom.
