Question about Washing Machines
I've got the belt over the drum, but cannot remove the side panels to loop the belt over the drive - the side panels appear to be welded/glued/painted or somehow adhered to the back and front panels. How can I access the drive unit?
Worked for white knight dryers for a while and saw that the siders and main case are spot weldetd together, but dryers are really simply put together, take out more parts so you can get to what you need, but take pictures to remind you how they go back

If the obstruction is between the drum inner and outer then you may have to remove the rubber door seal to gain access. ISOLATE THE POWER FIRST. The problem with disturbing seals is that they may no longer seal when replaced! - Particularly if the machine is a few years old.
Probably best to leave it to a guy with a van full of spares.

SOURCE: the tumble dryer does not
does the element heat up then turn right back off after a few seconds? if so, there is 2 sensors that control the heat element, one is in the duct right after the fan. when this sensor senses too hot, it will shut down the heat element. either your sensor is bad, or the lint is not getting out, causing the heat to build up in the duct.

On this model in order to replace the belt first disconnect power to the dryer. Looking at the front of the unit in the seam between the front panel and the dryer top, use a putty knife to press in & release the spring clips in the right and left sides of this seam to release the top panel. Lift the panel & rest it against the wall. Reach in & remove the 2 screws holding the front panel to the side panels. Once you have removed the screws, lift the front panel up slightly to remove the complete front panel from the stationary clips at the bottom of the dryer. Be careful with the wires going to the door switch. Either remove them from the switch or simply lean the front panel against the right side of the cabinet. Next, lift the drum and slide the new belt around the drum to the mark made by the previous belt on the drum. Be sure the ribs are facing down. Part number for the drive belt is 31531589 which over the years crossed to 341241. On your knees, reach back by the motor and idler assembly and lift the idler pulley tension arm to route the belt allowing the idler to take up the slack in the drive belt. Reassemble and dryer some clothing.

Disconnect the power source from the dryer. You can unplug from the wall outlet, remove the fuse from the fuse box or flip the breaker in the panel box.
Pull off the front panel of the dryer. Remove the screw in each corner at the bottom of the dryer's front panel. Lift up the front panel until the two clips at the top disengage. Remove the two screws that are found beneath it at the corners to remove the cabinet top.
Remove the belt by releasing the tension applied by the movable idler pulley wheel. The belt loops over the drum, under the idler pulley wheel and then around the motor's drive pulley.
Discard the used belt. It is fine to just throw it in the trash.
Install the new belt by pushing in on the idler pulley arm. Make sure the new belt is placed flat along the exterior of the drum.
Replace the screws back into the dryer's front panel. Screw them in tightly so that the panel will not fall off or jiggle loose.
Reconnect the power source back to your dryer. Either plug it back in or flip the switch in the breaker box.

Unplug the dryer and open the dryer door.
Unscrew the screws under the top lip, where the dryer's door closes, with your screwdriver. Once these screws are removed, lift the top off of the dryer. On older models, the entire top will hinge upward out of the way, and on models made after 1997, half the top will pull off.
Remove the screws on the inside-top corners of the front panel so the front panel of the dryer can be removed and set aside. On models made before 1997, the front panel should be carefully set to the right side; on newer models, the panel should be set to the left side of the machine. Be careful not to damage the door-control wires.
Locate two screws approximately 6 inches off the floor on each side and remove them, allowing you to push the sides of the dryer slightly apart so the drum can be removed. Pull the drum slightly toward you and reach around to remove the dryer belt from the motor pulley. If the belt is broken, this step should not be necessary. Once the belt has been removed from the motor pulley, the drum should pull up slightly and out of the dryer toward you.
Remove the old dryer belt and put the new one in place, with the ribs of the belt facing the drum. The slack part of the belt should be placed near the motor. Reverse the previous directions to replace the drum, replace the screws that hold the sides in place, replace the front and replace the top.
Pull the dryer out from the wall and remove the four screws holding in the panel near the bottom of the back of the dryer. You will see the motor, the drum and the belt you just set in place. Loop the belt around the motor pulley and the idler pulley, and turn the drum by hand to make sure that the belt is straight and will stay in place. Screw the panel back on and push the dryer back into place against the wall.
