RCA MiniDV Camcorder Broken LCD Monitor

My neighbor's son dropped my RCA MiniDV Camcorder model CC6254. Very very disappointed! The LCD monitor came off and separated into pieces. I don't know how to put it back together. It actually still powers on, but I can't see anything through the lense and certainly not through the broken LCD. I did connect the Camcorder back to my computer and was VERY happy to at least know that I can still see the actual videos and pictures that were stored onto the memory card of the Camcorder. I even connected it to my television and that works too. I love this camera so much. I've had it since 2001 and hate to part with it. I'm hoping that someone will give me some good news and in that this is something that can be repaired.

The good news is that it can probably be repaired. The bad news is that the cost of repair will almost certainly outweigh the cost of a more up-to-date replacement. As it is now sixteen years old, you might want to give it an honourable retirement.

SOURCE: Blank LCD works but wont display

I have a Canon powershot A85 camera, and it works fine, but I get no picture in the LCD screen. It does take pictures and I can look at the pictures after I have taken them. I don't know if you live in Australia, if you do ring Canon on 131383. A lot of Canon camera's and also a lot of other digital camera's all have a problem with the CCD Chip. My brother has a Canon A75, he has had is for many years, and they fixed it free of charge, because it is a problem the camera has, so not something we done. Look on the internet and you will find a lot of info on it, also that it will be fixed free of charge. I also found the same information on a lot of other digital camera's, so ring Canon and find out, I hope this helps you. Kind Regards Marion

SOURCE: LCD blank & No picture taken

This appears to be a well known CCD problem, which Nikon acknowledges only for the COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ models. Nikon denies the CCD problems on the 5400 are related, even though a Google search for this problem returns numerous results which claim the same defective Sony CCD sensor was used in the 5400 as was used in the 3100, 5700, and SQ models. SOURCE: Sony DCR-HC38E Exporting miniDV video to computer

I had a similar problem with my Sharp camorder.
The preview window on XP simply displays corrupted images.
At the end, I bought a different firewire card and it worked for me.

Good luck.

SOURCE: How do I transfer pictures onto the memory card?

Go to the camera's "setup menu" and scroll down to the last option, "move images to card" That should put the images onto the memory card.

SOURCE: transferring pictures

You might try putting the pix on a rewritable cd, and then copying them from that drive onto the smartcard drive with your card inserted. Or just try copying directly from your computer file to the smartcard drive with your card inserted, essentially using the computer's hardware to do the job instead of the camera's software.

Please locate RESET push button in camera (its tinny button pushed by ballpen) and perform reset.
2nd possibility is broken ribbon wire connecting lcd and main board of camera. in this case you need qualified technician or JVC service center.

Many camcorders brands used a surface mount capacitor that has a shelf life that lasts about 5-7 years or so. At the moment all those caps are going bad all through the cam. I would replace all or none. Good luck

How do I clean the camera?

Gently wipe any glass surface on your camcorder with a soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe the LCD monitor in a semicircle to avoid spreading a stain. Check the edges of the lens for loose particles. Caution: Do not touch the lens with your fingers. The oil from your skin can damage the lens.

Spots on my display

There's nothing wrong with your camcorder. Cystal-shaped spots, black spots, and bright spots of light (red, green, or blue) can appear on the LCD monitor for a variety of reasons. These spots are not being recorded on your tape. But if these are distracting your videotaping, consider taking a slightly different shooting angle and the spots should go away.
