Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 50 Series II Typewriter

I have a Wheelwriter 50 Series II It speaks terribly! is there a way to oil it? how do we get the sqealing to stop?

If it squeaks when you tab or return a little WD40 on mthe carrier motor bearings will stop it. The motor is located in the R. rear corner under the case. The front bearing is accessible from inside the rear one requires removing the case or fishing the straw thru it.

The ribbon drive motor might be n/g. I think 6 beeps is the ribbon motor located under the gear on the ribbon cartridge.

Your print solenoid probably has a broken cap. There are some companies that sell the "kit" with instructions on how to replace the cap.

The ribbon may not be fully seated on the ribbon deck. The blue latch has to hol it in place.

The silver shaft that the carrier slide on needs a little lube WD40 works well. Also check for any deprid under the carrier that could interfere with its movement.

Carriage will not return


the silver shaft that the carrier moves back & fourth on is gummy take a rag & put some light wait oil on it wipe the silver shaft down. With the power off move the carrier back and fouth. spray or put on more oil on shaft wipe down any extra oil.

IBM wheelwriter 6 Series II


try turning the machine off put a SMALL amount of oil on the large round rod running across the typewriter manually push the print head left and right a few times to see if it will loosen up. The problem is usually caused be drying oil you may consider having it serviced by a pro.
